

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rami Mattar.
Hi Rami, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a deep interest in laser technologies, design, and entrepreneurship, since collage, and over time, that curiosity evolved into a career path rooted in both innovation and hands-on execution.
I started with BSc in Laser Engineering, in Baghdad, Iraq. Then Master of Science Degree in Laser & Optoelectronics Engineering, then another MSc in Electrical Engineering from Cardiff University, UK. This is how I entered the field. I identified a market gap when I was working for an O&G company down in Houston, TX. Early on, I realized there was a real need for removal of contaminations in pipes & tubes, an opportunity I noticed to utilize efficient laser-based solutions, and I became committed to solving that.
That drive led me to founding INV Photonics, developing, commercializing, then launching products that changed the directions of the industry toward more efficient, sustainable and cost-effective solution. It hasn’t always been easy — like any new product development paths, there were setbacks, steep learning curves, and moments of uncertainty. But those challenges only sharpened my focus and refined my approach.
Today, I’m proud to be the founder | CTO leading a growing team, working with global clients, bringing advanced laser systems to market, but I remain driven by the same values I started with: curiosity, precision, and creating lasting impact.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I wouldn’t expect it to be. The road has had its share of challenges. Early on, one of the biggest hurdles was simply gaining credibility — especially when introducing new technologies or solutions that the market wasn’t familiar with. Convincing potential clients to take a chance on something innovative, or investing in a system they hadn’t seen before, took persistence and a lot of proof-of-concept work.

At INV Photonics, we specialize in advanced industrial laser technologies — with a focus on engineering, integration, and local manufacturing of laser cleaning and processing systems. We are builders, problem-solvers, and partners to our clients across oil & gas, aerospace, transportation, defense, and heavy industry.
What sets us apart is our ability to engineer customized laser systems tailored to each client’s operational needs. Our solutions go beyond the off-the-shelf approach. We design around the challenges — whether that’s surface prep in confined spaces, coating removal on high-value assets, or meeting specific power, safety, or environmental compliance standards.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is its energy and diversity — not just culturally, but industrially. We’re surrounded by innovation across sectors like energy, aerospace, shipping, healthcare, and manufacturing. That blend makes this a unique environment for a business like ours that bridges technology and real-world application. There’s also a strong sense of community here, where people are open to collaboration and genuinely want to see each other succeed.
If there’s one thing I’d say I like least, it’s probably the transportation & traffic challenges. For a city that’s growing as fast as it is, but in many ways, that also presents opportunities for innovation and improvement, which is exciting in itself.
