Hidden Gems: Meet Shaina Pherigo of Bramble Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaina Pherigo, Principal + Founder for Bramble Creative.

Hi Shaina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a kid, I was fascinated with stories and one of my favorite stories was Harriett the Spy. It inspired me to focus on my writing and introduced me to the idea that other peoples’ perspectives are quite fascinating. Everyone has a story and maybe I could be the one to help them tell it.

“There are as many ways to live in this world as there are people in this world, and each one deserves a closer look,” the author writes.

Today, as the founder and Principal of Bramble Creative, media expert and former journalist, I’ve found that this statement continues to drive me in my life’s work toward my passion.

That passion is helping people share ideas, information, and ultimately, their stories.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is a common template of storytelling called the Hero’s Journey – where the Heroine goes on an adventure, faces a challenge, is victorious in that challenge and comes home transformed. I’ve lived the Hero’s Journey many times in my own life and career and in those moments, I’ve had multiple transformations – the journey of finding myself, of understanding my abilities and discovering how I could help others. With each journey, I’ve gained a bit more wisdom and grown my skills. All along the way, I’ve found that you have to find your people who will be in your corner cheering you on and giving you positive energy – those relationships will sustain you through your highest highs and lowest lows.
The biggest transformation of them all for me began after the pandemic. I took a leap of faith in my own abilities by starting my own public relations and content writing agency.

In this transformation, I discovered that I didn’t need to fit into a box and that I could undeniably be myself. I could, in fact, celebrate what makes me different and promote my point of view as a 3rd-generation Houstonian, 4th generation entrepreneur, Latina and a mom and not have to leave a part of myself behind when I come to work. I have harnessed those attributes about myself to build Bramble Creative into a company that is authentic and focused. Bramble Creative is a love letter to my heritage, my community and my family.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bramble Creative is a fully integrated public relations and content writing agency that focuses on supporting firms in the architecture, design and commercial real estate space.

We deliver creative, customized solutions, strategy and insights and we achieve real results for our clients. We strive to help brands share stories about their people and connect with audiences who need to hear them. We are guided by three foundational principles: we deliver top-tier work that is customized and compelling; it all begins and ends with our client relationships; and celebrate our industry expertise and dedicated focus to our craft.

Founded in a hybrid working world, we understand how the need for connections at every level of society has never been greater. Bramble Creative is proudly a virtual-first company, which also allows us to work with innovative brands across the U.S. and overseas.

No longer is PR viewed as a separate and narrow tactic isolated from other activities. We are instead prepared to deal with a variety of innovative professionals, issues and subjects and can appreciate the fact that good and effective PR of the future entails time, development and relationships – which leads to understanding.

On every account, we dedicate and staff a curated team that is specialized and skilled for the job. Our vetted team is made up of Media Relations + PR Professionals and Commercial Real Estate Freelancers and Journalists that generate engaging copy for clients. We also work with designers and brand experts with years of relevant industry experience in the architecture and design space.

Our services include media relations, public relations strategy, thought leadership generation, copywriting, ESG Communications, media training, influencer marketing, blog writing, speaking engagement prep, creative design, award submissions, content creation and more.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
As a company that works with commercial real estate, architecture and design groups, Bramble Creative has kept a close eye on how COVID-19 continues to alter the state of the market. This is clearly seen in end user demands for office, hospitality and retail markets as well as a wide range of disciplines. We understand that much of these demands come in waves and we’re likely to see a new age of commercial real estate as companies settle into hybrid working models.

When it comes to companies, we’ve seen that developers and owners are forming the workplace as a beacon to facilitate culture, rather than just day-to-day activities.

Today, innovative employers are looking for:

  • Variety of options in a flexible working environment
  • expecting a connection to the outdoors
  • looking to have access to workspaces that support hybrid-worker technology

When it comes to communication and how it has changed since the pandemic, we’ve noticed some big changes there as well.

  • People are more conscious of the environmental impacts of projects and if it’s not in your messaging, it is noticed.
  • Equity and Diversity language and concerted efforts are celebrated and necessary in messaging and corporate cultures today
  • Upholding a new normal for work-life balance and removing the expectation of hustle culture

At Bramble Creative, we have to be mindful of both of these changes. We understand what companies are facing, what’s new in communication and how people receive messaging. We are staying on top of these trends to act as the translator for ideas to the audiences who need to hear them.
