Today we’d like to introduce you to Selena Dione.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2008, I became the proud mom of a beautiful baby girl. She was perfect in every way. Our only challenge was her severe allergies. Her allergies caused her to have seasonal bouts of asthma and constant issues with eczema. While asthma has been controlled through medical means, we were not so lucky with eczema. I began creating various bath blends, salves, and other natural remedies to help her skin.
Since beginning my experimenting until now, I have thoroughly enjoyed my hobby. Now, at the age of ten, my daughter (as the Cheif marketing Officer and model) has begun helping with the creations… and together, we created Bathe.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a start-up, I would say one of the biggest challenges is getting your name out there. You have to be very creative when you have a limited marketing budget. No one wants to break the bank trying to win customers. It’s really a lot of trial and error.
You also have to understand that not everyone will be as excited about your products as you are, but you can’t let that deter your dream. Keep believing in what you’ve created and push forward.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m an “artist” and very sensitive about my “ish.” LOL. I’m very proud of the blends and tea’s I’ve created. I spend quite a bit of time researching my ingredients and finding wholesalers that can supply me with high-grade ingredients. I personally make every single order. My family, children and I test each bath blend, oil, and tea before I offer them for sale.
If I have to choose my greatest achievement, I would have to say the creation of Jada’s Magical Blend. When I bathe, my daughter in this blend regularly, it causes a very noticeable change in her skin within a few weeks. The creation of Jada’s Magical Blend started it all!
There are plenty of bath products out here. The wonderful thing about my products is they can be used in conjunction with the staples you already have; your favorite soaps, salts, scrubs, etc. Consumers are becoming more knowledgeable about what they put on there skin and in there body’s and that’s super beneficial for a company like mine that prides itself on being natural with non-harsh ingredients. They say that as production goes up, quality goes down. Because my items are truly small batch made, you can be guaranteed that you are receiving a high-quality item.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I can’t pinpoint one specific experience. My great aunt was an entrepreneur, so it’s probably in my blood. I’ve always been the type of person that liked to create things. I had an instance a few years ago in adulthood, that caused me to draw a big fat line through my old life and start over; but that’s a story for another time.
