Life & Work with Gloria Okere

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Okere.

Gloria Okere

Hi Gloria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been an individual that looked for ways to help others. It became a hobby of mine, especially during the  Covid Pandemic when I found myself working from home for two years. During this time, I was looking for ways to make myself more beneficial to my community while working on my doctoral dissertation and holding a full-time job. I then discovered my non-profit organization, along with my colleague entitled – L &G Mental Health Housing and Resources.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth because with any business you have to dedicate a lot of your personal time especially when it comes to a non-profit organization. It requires a lot of dedication,  obtaining monetary funding, and other small factors included.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently  I am a dean at a local school in Houston, Texas which I absolutely love. I am afforded the ability to work with students’, staff, parents and my community. I am proud of my ability to advocate for students on a daily basis, along with coaching teachers and staff and modeling expectations and appropriate positive behavior. I also pride myself for being a good mediator and providing conflict resolution.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The co-founder of our organization, L&G Mental Health Housing Resources-Lasheria Nance-Bush. Also, my biggest cheerleaders have been my parents, my siblings, my two best friends Shay and Tavis, and my closet supporter Konrad. All of these individuals have helped shape who I am today and they  continue to push me to go after my goals and dreams.
