Life & Work with Stephanie Pourgouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Pourgouri.

Hi Stephanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began playing the piano at the age of 5, when my teacher discovered that I could sing! She encouraged me to sing and perform in all kinds of shows and productions which lead to my love for the stage. At the age of 15, I found out about what became my dream college; ‘Berklee College of Music’ in Boston, which furthered my passion for music even more as I got to meet some of the most amazing people, students and professors. Some of those very special people have helped me make connections in the music industry which lead me to do what I have always dreamt of, to be a touring musician. I am now touring as a feature and background singer in ‘The Life & Music of George Michael’ tribute tour. However, my goal is to one day tour the world performing my own music!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been an amazing journey so far for me and I count every struggle as a lesson learned. I have met some of the most incredible people who I learn from every day and those are the kinds of people I want to be surrounded by and want my focus to be on. I think one of the struggles that sticks out to me the most was listening to people who told me I could never do what I am doing now. It used to really bring me down and knock my confidence to the ground. I remember teachers at school, friends, even family members telling me that I “should choose another path in life because music wasn’t a career.” Despite all that they said, I’m so glad I never listened to them. Always follow your dreams and never give up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Stephània (Stèphanie Pourgouri) is a R&B/Soul singer-songwriter based in Boston, MA. Born to a Cypriot father and an Irish mother, Stephània was raised on the island of Cyprus and grew up listening to the sounds of Michael Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire and Etta James. With her rich and warm tone, Stephània is best known for integrating her personal life experiences into her emotional story-telling music, creating an emotional connection between herself and her listeners. Her latest singles ‘Boy’ and ‘Tell Me’ made it onto one of Northern Ireland’s most notable radio stations, BBC Radio Ulster.

I am really proud of my journey so far as I have graduated college, I am surrounded by some really cool musicians that I am able to collaborate with and I look forward to releasing my debut EP later this year which is something in the works that I am so incredibly proud of.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe that live music can be a life-changing experience for everyone and I think that live music is and will be in demand more and more in the coming years.
