Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Walsh.
Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m formally trained as an educator for elementary grades, and an early childhood specialist. I love to teach children how to read and write and watch as they discover how to put their thoughts on paper. However, after twenty years in the school system, I became frustrated with watching the classroom become more of an institutionalized environment with no room for creativity from the teachers or the children, as well as seeing how political influences shape the educational environment.
Also, at that time, I had some health challenges and resigned from teaching. I was so scared! Teaching is the only thing I had ever done. In my younger years, before starting a family, I was a songwriter and poet, so I knew that writing was a passion, but had no clue how to turn that into a career to support my family.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was not confident in my abilities. I kept asking God what it was that I needed to do to make a difference, and HE kept insisting that I write a devotional for women in business. I thought that was so absurd! You see, I had not become a Christian until my first daughter was born. Fourteen years later, I was still learning what this whole new life was about. I didn’t grow up learning bible verses and stories. Who was I to think that I was suited to write a devotional, and why would God set me up for such failure?
Do you ever feel like that? Do you ever wonder why you have a passion burning inside that you can’t stop thinking about? Do you ever feel unworthy to carry out a dream, or maybe convince yourself that you’re going to fail before you ever begin?
At the time, we were struggling financially, emotionally, health-wise- you name it and we were battling it! I wrote that devotional on my phone because the laptop I owned was too old and kept crashing. I found free apps to design the cover. I spoke to women that had self-published and asked them to please help me learn how to do this. And then, after a year of doubt, and many conversations with God, I completed that devotional!
Please tell us about Boss Lady Believer.
Boss Lady Believer was born from a prayer, asking God what He wanted me to do. The book is definitely not from me, a tired, unconfident woman who struggles daily. You see, I told God if I was going to do anything it had to be by His leading, and He did not disappoint! My faith grew by leaps and bounds! I have heard from so many people that this book has helped them. And, although I hate to brag about that, the thought that I had a hand in helping someone really is a great feeling!
Work Like a Boss….. Act Like a Lady…. Live Like a Believer
I now offer coaching services to anyone who wants to write their book. I will help you process your thoughts, set up an organized writing plan, and hold you accountable. I’ve discovered a way to incorporate my love of teaching with my love of writing. It is my hope to be able to help others write their story!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
You know what, the process is part of my story. I learned from my struggles and mistakes. You don’t have to do things perfectly, you just have to do it!!
