Meet Britany Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britany Perez.

Hi Britany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am the owner of Britany Danette Photography. I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor’s Degree in Business in 2014. My husband, Sam Perez, & I have (two) beautiful Daughters, Alaina Rey (three years old) & Julia Shea (five months old) & we live in Texas City! I started my photography journey in 2011, taking newborn pictures for families in Bryan+College Station hospitals! Soon after, clients were asking me to come to their homes to document milestones of their precious baby (six months, first-year cake smash sessions & family pictures). I then decided to start my own business! After graduation, I used my degree to enter the workforce & decided to put my business on hold. In 2019, my husband & I welcomed our first daughter & I quickly realized if I were going to be working & spending time away from my newborn, I needed to be doing something I absolutely loved. I then decided to focus on my true passion in life, my photography business & being a full-time mommy! In 2021, I opened my first studio in the historic Downtown Texas City!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is scary & you have to wear many hats! I do get to create my own schedule when booking customers, but in reality I’m working way more now then in an office. Juggling work & home life can be tricky but more rewarding when you’re running your own business! We recently welcomed our second daughter so I decided to move out of studio in Downtown Texas City to focus on my girls & embrace this season of my life. I was worried about taking time away from my clients & missing special milestones in their lives, but I have been overwhelmed with support. I will be returning soon & have some exciting news to share!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My business name shows my first & middle name, Britany Danette Photography. Every image I create is my form of art! I specialize in newborn, cake smash & family photography!

Newborn sessions capture babies around 2 weeks of age and focus on all of their little details! Newborn safety is my number one priority. Communication is key to achieving a quiet & calm environment for the parents and their newborn. Parents are given a newborn prep guide & have a full understanding of how the session will navigate before starting & I advise my next move throughout the session. I have the knowledge and experience to pose & handle a newborn. I also participate in workshops to further my education on new techniques and trends in the industry regularly. Parents will answer a questionnaire prior to our session to advise colors/themes they would like me to focus on. I provide all props, wraps and fabrics in studio so parents will not have to bring anything to the session but their new little love!

Cake smash sessions are for babies who are turning one! I create a custom background to match each child’s birthday theme, provide a cake from a trusted vendor & have a tub for easy clean up! I can guarantee there will be music, signing and dancing to create a fun environment & capture those smiles!

Family posing can be added to newborn or cake smash sessions or booked separately! I also offer seasonal mini sessions throughout the year, typically around the holidays!

I started my photography journey ten years ago & proud to say this is just the beginning to my business dream!

MY BIG NEWS TO SHARE: My husband & I just purchased land in Hitchcock, Texas & we have decided to build a brand new barndominium studio! I will have a new forever home for Britany Danette Photography!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
With a new studio comes new opportunities & growth! Having 4.5 acres of land and a new farm house style barndominium studio, I would like to offer hourly studio rental opportunities to creatives like me for their indoor or outdoor photography needs! Over the years, I’d like to build statement pieces to our property & make our studio an appealing photo-op destination! As for my photography business, I want to be one of the top photographers in Houston for newborn, cake smash & family photography! Work hard & dream big!! Photography is ever-changing in style & trends, but one thing will always remain… THE MEMORIES!! One thing that is fading in the industry is prints & wall art. We are in a digital world & sadly images are not being printed, only posted on social media. I intend to change that for my clients by offering photo albums, prints & wall art for their images to be displayed in their home & not stay on their phones or computer! Thank you to my amazing loyal clients that are eager for me to return, especially for the holiday season, I’ll see you all very soon!
