Meet Christina Hulka of Inked & Blinked Permanent Makeup Artisty in Clear Lake/ Webster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Hulka.

Christina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for making people feel their best whether that be makeup or hair. Pretty much anything in the beauty industry has always been something I have felt passionate about but I knew there was more, something more to strive for.

I somehow knew I would be doing things my own way, I work better by being in control of my own work and relying on myself. I first had to train behind a couple of tattoo artists to gain knowledge in the world of tattooing, and then onto being more specialized in the makeup side to it. One thing has to lead to another and brought me where I am today. There are many people that have helped me with being the entrepreneur that I am and the person I am still striving to be.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, I am still somewhat new to being on my own. Inked & Blinked is run by only one person, me. I am my own boss, receptionist, marketer, designer, and artist. I have become great friends with a lot of business owners that share the same interests and goals as we all network with one another. In any industry, networking is what gets you places.

I do admit at times it’s difficult and mentally draining to juggle everything at once, but for the most part, I would rather it be this way than any other way.

Inked & Blinked Permanent Makeup Artisty – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I own Inked & Blinked Permanent Makeup Artistry located in Houston, TX, specializing in the permanent cosmetic services including eyeliner, solid brows, brow strokes and lips.

What sets me apart from others I would say is that I am known for being a perfectionist and I am someone who follows the strict guidelines in sanitation and licensing, which is a great thing in my profession. I want to ensure that every single person leaving my office feels amazing. I never want to mask somebody by making them look entirely different, I enhance.

I pride myself in offering quality services while keeping the safety of my clients as a first priority. I go above and beyond by following the state board regulations, laws of the health department including but not limited to bloodborne pathogen awareness. The safest place to receive permanent makeup (which is a tattoo) is in a licensed tattoo shop or suite.

Sadly, a large majority of the people that do what I do are not qualified or licensed. I find myself doing quite a bit of correction from other non-licensed artists.

What makes me the proudest is helping women’s daily lives by eliminating time in the morning they would be spending by putting on their makeup. I love all the different woman that have given me their time, hearing their life stories, and the challenges they go through with applying their makeup.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Most people think the more money you make, the more successful you are. Though money does play a great part in being successful, its the stepping stones that give you the feeling of success. People in my generation believe that everyone has to start off at the very top, in this world you have to start at the bottom and slowly but surely work your way up. I am constantly reminding myself that you have to start off any business by crawling which then turns to walking and then running.

I think of each person that leaves my office as another marker. They are another life I’ve changed, a story heard, a new friend, and a walking advertisement.
