Today we’d like to introduce you to O.E..
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Well, it all starts with my mom. No doubt, I got my talent in writing from her. She wrote poetry, stories, and even songs. I guess my story really starts around my late 8th grade to early freshman year. My mom was never a big social media person, but she decided to join twitter one day and, because of that, met a producer named Jrobb that sent my mom this program called “Mixcraft.” She went on to record her many written songs and even had me feature on a song she wrote (Including my verse). I didn’t like how I sounded, but it was the first time I ever saw making music was an actual possibility. If it wasn’t for that 6+ years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Please tell us about your art.
I’ve been rapping since middle school. I didn’t really look at my music, or music in general, as “art” until fairly recently and because of that my entire process for writing and the way I approach music is completely different. Everyone is who they are because of their experiences, both good and bad. Understanding that has better helped me incorporate who I am into what I have to say based on mine. I guess all in all what I want people to take from my music is that everything happens for a reason and that reason is you. You live, you experience, you learn, you grow. Never let something bring you down to the point of not getting back up.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national, or international events and issues affect your art?
To be honest with you I feel like it’s kind of unfair to put that on someone. If you really think about it, all people who become famous for their art are regular human beings just like us. They just had a talent that enough people cared about. In my opinion, if you don’t claim that’s what you’re about, then it’s wild for the masses to just hand you that responsibility. Its true artists are in better positions than most, in which they can help to make a difference, but at the end of the day, art is about expression. The truth is not everyone feels the same about everything, and everyone doesn’t feel it’s their job to voice their personal thoughts. As far as I go, I have an overall message that I hope is conveyed through my music. If I deviate from it to incorporate issues like that into my art, it’s not for show. I have a goal, and I want it to have an effect so I can’t see myself doing that till my audience grows.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My music is on Apple Music, Spotify, and Soundcloud, all under the name “O.E.”
Although I’m not the best at the promotion side of things I sure do try. I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for my team and my supporters. If you wanna become one you can follow me on Instagram at @on.everything and Twitter at @AnotherHardRock.
