Meet Cindy Burnett and Krista Hensel of Conversations from a Page in West University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Burnett and Krista Hensel.

Cindy and Krista, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Meeting by chance and paired by luck, Cindy and Krista began their years-long friendship separately selected to work together as co-chairs for a school leadership position. Working side-by-side in that job, Cindy and Krista stumbled upon a common joy for all things reading and book-related as well as a fondness for sharing their time and space with good friends, like their West U Wonders Book Club. In a moment of part inspiration, part revelation and realizing that they could merge these shared interests, including Cindy’s passion for book stagramming, book reviewing and bookselling, and Krista’s enjoyment and satisfaction with welcoming people into her warm home community and inclusive friendship, Conversations from a Page was born. This marriage of ideas brings together a community of readers with new and established authors alike sharing their current releases in a personal, welcoming, and casual atmosphere where relaxation and conversation take center stage before busy life takes over.

Together, Cindy and Krista are excited to offer these conversation from a Page opportunity throughout the year, highlighting talent to bring into Houston.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was very smooth until the pandemic hit. We have moved our events online and tried to find engaging ways to continue to entertain and interact with authors.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Conversations from a Page – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a literary salon that in non-pandemic times invites authors to Houston. We host them in Krista’s home during the day time, and the authors interact with readers in this casual setting. People come from various parts of the city to hear the authors and spend some time with like-minded readers and lovers of literature. Since Covid-19 arrived, we have been hosting our events on Zoom, which is not as intimate but it does allow us to host authors from anywhere without travel issues and to pick up readers from across the country. We have also launched an online book club, called As the Page Turns, which has been a huge hit and a newsletter called Continuing the Conversation. The link to sign up is on our website.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking ahead to when people can gather together again safely so we can return to our in-person gatherings. We fill a niche for readers, and we look forward to resuming our original-style events. We do plan to continue our online book club and to grow it as we can.
