Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Ferry.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My dream for QuoVadis started much earlier than it came to fruition. Ever since I was a child, I had this vision of changing the world. I wasn’t sure how, but I knew I wanted to impact the greater good. Fast forward 30 years and QuoVadis is born. We believe that everyone should feel safe and connected in the workplace. Throughout my career, I have seen many companies put their budget, money, and own interest before their people, and not only is it wrong, it is counterproductive to their goals. Show me an engaged employee and I will show you someone who is going to put their heart and soul into their work, and this will translate into dollars made and dollars saved. Many companies underestimate the power of engagement and how even one disengaged employee impacts your business and your brand.
When we first opened, we were built on this principle, and through many iterations, we have come to where we are today. It took hard work, patience, perseverance, but most importantly truly believing in QuoVadis and the power of its brand. Our team has worked hard to ensure our voice is truly authentic and real, but most importantly easy to understand. People Operations can seem like this jigsaw puzzle, but this isn’t the case. Any business, no matter how small or large, can transform their business by leveraging their most important asset, their people.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think struggling is a part of the journey. There have been times when we felt like giving up, like maybe we failed, or launched too early. There have been times when our expectations did not meet our reality, but each time we have come back to the drawing board to fine-tune our messaging and our voice. From the beginning, it has been important for us to be true to ourselves, to practice what we preach, and there is struggle with that. We have lost people along the way, who no longer believe in the vision of what we are trying to do, but gained insight with each roadblock. Every failure is a lesson. We are disrupting the natural order of things, challenging companies to put their people first and their profits second, this is going to come with challenges and failures along the way. But without failure, there can be no innovation. Every major breakthrough in history has been preceded by countless trials and errors. We, at QuoVadis, believe in this mission, so with each struggle, we dust ourselves off, learn from our mistakes, and then jump back into the arena.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the QuoVadis Consulting LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
QuoVadis Consulting is a people operations and human resources consulting firm in Houston, TX. What sets us apart from other consulting firms is that we thrive on creating independence for our clients. It is important to us that they remain authentic to their brand. Most consulting firms come to businesses with the answer to a problem, before they even meet anyone at that company. They assume they know your business better than you do. QuoVadis is changing the game by acknowledging that we don’t know what problems you may or may not have, but we enter into this journey together, learning along the way and creating something as a team. We know that you know your business and we know people operations. I am proud that we have been able to get to this point in our own company awareness and that we challenge ourselves to stay true to this mission.
Specifically, we specialize in everything people-dependent in your business, and we break it down into nine critical categories that we feel are crucial for sustainability and growth. They are recruiting, onboarding, learning and development, performance management, HR infrastructure, employee experience, leadership, succession planning, and offboarding. QuoVadis believes that each of these nine components are linked to one another and being intentional and thoughtful with every piece of the puzzle will lead to business success and a truly engaged workforce.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
You know, I’m not a big proponent of luck so to speak. I believe that when you put positivity and kindness into the world, you will get this back, but in the same breath if you are emoting negativity it will be more apparent in your life. I believe in hard work, authenticity, perseverance, and great ideas. I believe that every time something bad happens in life or in business, not to view it as bad luck, but as a lesson and a growth opportunity. The things I have faced in my life are a huge part of who I am and why I am the person I am today. Every day we make choices, and each choice carries its own good or bad consequences, but at the end of the day, there is always a lesson. I love the idea of luck, and I am definitely one of those people that picks up a penny on the ground when I see one for a little extra luck that day, but at the core of luck, I believe are our choices. The choices we make lead to the outcomes we have and our perseverance and authenticity take us the rest of the way.
