Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassandra Mysliwiec.
Hi Kassandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is kassandra, i am originally from Arizona, born and raised and left when i was 18. I actually grew up showing dogs my whole life, i am 3rd generation. My grandparents started breeding and showing back in the early 60’s with Dobermans and boxers, my uncle still to this day shows and breeds Rottweilers and I have Golden retrievers. Back in 2014/15 I decided i wanted a change and became extremely interested in skin and skin care. That’s when i took the leap and went to Aveda institute and graduated in 2015. I took about a year off and continued showing dogs for a bit, until I had the opportunity to work at Hand and stone in 2017. I loved learning more and learning more in depth training, unfortunately along the way i realized doing long extended services were just not my passion and realized I really enjoyed full body waxing. So i took a job a European wax center and worked there for 3 years and loved my clients and enjoyed being able to interact with them more. Unfortunately during that time covid hit and started shutting everything down, us being one of them. I took that time to reflect and figure out where i wanted to go from here. Life became very busy with not only 1 child, but had a newborn and wedding to plan during this break. Sadly in 2021 my grandmother had passed a month after we just signed our wedding venue and date, 1 year and 4 days before our actual wedding. We ended up finding out that in her will, she left me with a portion of it. So I decided to take that leap of faith and use that to open our salon. I had an extremely hard time with a name as i had several made but nothing fit just right. Until i realized she helped me with this, so i needed something to reflect and honor her and that’s where kasmar came from. My name (Kassandra) and my grandmothers name (Marlene) combined became one, Kasmar waxing studio. It fit perfectly and only seemed right, and here we are 3 years later and loving every minute of it!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, waxing in general has its seasonal times unfortunately. You learn along the way with everything, keeping clientele, learning to balance money, advertising. During the first year of opening in 2022, i lost my grandma, 2 dogs (one 2 weeks before i delivered my son and the other being 3 weeks after having my second child just shy of her 14 birthday), planning my wedding and trying to run a business, struggling with PPD.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed esthetician, who does full body waxing and specializes in Brazilians with 8 years experience. I am proud of myself for pushing through and making it this far, i love my clients. We lose clients along the way, but are so grateful for the support we have received from them. I am not one who needs to be fully booked and overdue it on myself, i make myself available to my clients and are very flexible with them as they are with me in return. I pride myself on having wonderful relationships with them
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Never give up on your passion, no matter the struggles.
