Today we’d like to introduce you to Mo Elkurdi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started working for Toni & Guy/TIGI in the 1990’s and worked my way up as a National Creative Director for the company. In addition to working behind the chair, I traveled with the Artistic Team throughout North America and Canada to teach courses, seminars, and hair shows. In 1999, I was given the opportunity to become a Partner/Owner in Toni & Guy located in The Woodlands, TX. In 2002, we opened our 2nd location, Toni & Guy in Memorial City Mall in Houston, TX. It was an incredible journey and wonderful learning experience throughout my 18 years at the company.
In 2009, I decided to branch out on my own and start a new chapter. I opened up BH Hair Studio in Katy, TX. It has been the most fulfilling and exciting adventure.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Setting up a start-up company can be a complex process. The number one challenge was going to a new area, 20 miles outside of Houston and starting from scratch from where we were for over 20 years. Everything from selecting a location, design and build out, setting up the network system, recruit, train staff, and market the new company.
Putting in the time for research at the very start of the process saved me valuable time – and even money. Sticking to the core basics of knowing what needs to be done behind the chair by taking care of the clients’ needs and adjusting to market trends has proven to be invaluable.
Please tell us about BH Hair Studio.
We are fortunate to have established a tight knit family friendly environment that includes close relationships with generations of clients and their family members.
Our specialty is in Education. It is the key in what we do and what we deliver. Our staff has pre-defined education goals to achieve in order to excel to the next level of Stylist and Chemical Tech. In-Salon Training is conducted weekly in addition to our Quarterly Product Knowledge, Cut and Colour Training, and Annual Team Training at The TIGI Learning Lab in Dallas, TX and New York City Academy which is essential to our success.
At BH Hair Studio, we follow the proven code to lead by example in every position from the top down. It is essential to our foundation.
I am proud of all of my team members some of whom I have worked with for 10-20 years. They are positive, friendly, genuine, hardworking, extremely creative and artistic with decades of skills and experience. Together, we created a wonderful environment that we are able to provide our guests with exceptional and personable service. Another accomplishment is that we were featured in the prestigious American Salon Magazine, Better Business, under Culture Club as one of the 3 salons featured Nationwide.
