Meet Monique Beasley of Bold N’ Chic by Monique B. in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Beasley.

Monique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I fell in love with fashion when I was around 5 or 6. My mother being a fashionista herself, influenced and deepened that love. I would always find myself in her closet putting outfits together for her and myself. Country girl gone city!! Lol (that’s what I like to call it!) From Texarkana, Arkansas, I moved to Houston in October 2013 to pursue my dream of becoming a wardrobe stylist.

Five months of me being here in Houston, I was able to take the first steps of making my dreams a reality. I was booked as the Lead Wardrobe Stylist for a music video for a local music artist named Papa Reu for his then single, Winning. Using the momentum from my first paid gig, I chose to invest into my craft by enrolling into school.

I attended school at the Art Institute of Houston for Fashion Design, but unfortunately, I was unable to complete the program due to my work & school hours conflicting. However, while attending AI, I was able to meet and work with alumni, Celebrity Stylist, and Fashion designer René Garza. Working with him progressed me to the next level of my styling career.

Since then, I have styled a number of photo shoots and worked with many photographers and models within the city. My work has been published into several magazines; Vogue Italia, FUSED Magazine, &, Promo NYC Magazine, to name a few. I’ve also had the pleasure of assisting with the styling of Grammy Award winner Ms. Lauryn Hill for a few of her concerts.

Still expanding my brand, I recently launched my online boutique, Shop Bold N’ Chic! Owning my own boutique has been a life long dream of mine. As I look back from where I began to FINALLY seeing my dreams manifesting, is one of the best feelings in the world!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey has definitely played a major role in my growth and in the development of my character! Whew!! LOL

As I mentioned earlier, I was unable to complete the fashion program due to work. To afford school, I worked a full time and a part-time job all while being a full-time student. I started to fall behind in my degree plan due to only taking night classes. My counselor pretty much told me I had to make a decision on whether to continue the program or take some time off. Knowing I had to still provide for myself, I dropped out.

However, that didn’t and hasn’t stopped me. I took all of the things I learned, all of the people I met while attending AI and I just started doing my own thing. I would attend any business and fashion seminars to network and get more knowledge on how to build my brand.

What has helped me along the way is changing my perspective on different situations I encounter. Anything that challenges you is just a learning and growth experience. I’ve learned that my journey isn’t about me, it’s to help and inspire others that are traveling a similar path.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bold N’ Chic by Monique B. – what should we know?
Bold N’ Chic by Monique B., is a full-service wardrobe styling company. We specialize in photo shoots, personal styling and shopping, closet organization, and all other wardrobe needs.

I’d say we’re known for being Bold N’ Chic! LOL. We set ourselves apart by going with what feels right, rather than following trends. I always say, “I don’t fit in, I stand out!”

I’m most proud of the resilience and morals my company has. When it gets challenging, we keep going! I’m also very proud of launching Shop Bold N’ Chic Boutique. That was a goal that has been long in the making and to FINALLY see that dream become a reality is a great feeling!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Beside every dope person, there’s an even doper support system! My family and friends have always supported me in all that I do! They’re consistently sharing my content on social media, telling their friends about my products and lastly, but certainly not the least, they encourage me to keep going no matter what! I truly appreciate all of the talks and shoulders that have been lended throughout my journey. Thank you & I love ALL of you guys! ❤

As I mentioned earlier, René Garza was the first person to take me under his wing and really give me the scoop on being in the Fashion Industry. He’s brought me along to several major photo shoots he’d be styling and also referring me for other projects that require a stylist! Thank you, René for believing in me and appreciating my art! ❤
