Meet Nancy Best

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Best.

Hi Nancy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved vintage glass and pottery and enjoy the hunt for new items. My husband was laid off from the oil industry right before Covid. I was furloughed and then the company I worked for made the decision to close down permanently. During Covid, we started pouring candles in our vintage vessels and really enjoyed them. After months of not working and no money coming in we thought why not try to do this as a business to see if anyone else would enjoy these vintage vessel candles. I love finding these old treasures, usually covered in dust, cleaning them up, giving them a new purpose and a new life. They are not just candles, they are memories of days gone by. We pride ourselves in using all-natural soy wax, clean essential oils, clean-burning all cotton wicks and upcycling these beautiful old vessels. Our business has become a labor of love to us and we take great pride in our candles. Each and everyone is unique and handpicked by us. We hope they will give someone as much joy and happiness as they give us when we are creating them.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We are still in our infancy. We have been in business for just three months. The struggles so far have been maneuvering business social media, how to market our company and our product. Getting our brand out to the right people who would shop for our product. We have the product, now we just need to get our product out there and reach more people in order to grow our business. These are all things we are not really sure how to do yet.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My background is in Interior Design. I have always had a love of interior and architecture. When I had children, I decided to stay home and raise them and put my career on hold. As they got older, I started doing Merchandising for different products and found it a great outlet for my creativity. When my children moved on to college, I landed in a large high-end accessory shop doing the buying and merchandising. This was a very rewarding and satisfying position. I always stay close to interior design and am always helping friends and neighbors with their design needs.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
First and foremost, being a mother makes me the happiest. My children are and always will be my true heart. Finding my old treasures, little gifts from the past, and cleaning them up to give me great joy. Wondering who first had them, how they were originally used and loved, these are the stories that each and every vintage item holds. These are the stories that make each and every one of them unique. Bringing them back to life, putting them back in people’s homes in a current and useful way just fills me with joy. So many of these gems from the past end up in a closet or, worse yet the trash. Seeing people pick up one of our candles, smile and say – my grandma used to have one of these – makes my heart happy.
