Meet Precious Howard of Dayton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Precious Howard.

Hi Precious, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When my oldest daughter now 11 was 4 she asked me could we make YouTube videos like Ryan. At the time I was so caught up in trying to get my masters degree. I was fresh out of college and pregnant with my second daughter. I had never watched Vlogs yet or thought of posting any videos to be seen. After my daughter told me that I remember asking her on the spot to make a video and see what she would do. We did a starburst review. She was already theatrical so it went very well. A year later I ran across pranks and BLove Mukbangs. My second baby then almost two wouldn’t say much but she would say BLoves intro “what’s up my B Looveeless.” That’s when I was like okay I see. Being from New Orleans and loving seafood I thought wow we can just eat on YouTube and get paid Lol (quickly found it was more to it.) Then I started to think what value can I bring to YouTube, I can sew then came the name PeeMade (no family yet Lol.) We were living in a family owned trailer in Napoleonville. I told my man what I wanted to do and I woke up to him asking me how I wanted to set up the living room to record my videos. The set came out nice and I started to go live on Facebook to test it out. He was and still is so supportive. I was more encouraged than ever. By this time my third daughter was born as well and I didn’t have time to sew anymore. I would usually sew for my kids or for money. But I had Irish twins and a 5 year old. So I started to record small clips of us. I didn’t know where to edit funny enough. I remember editing videos on the computer in high school using Microsoft video I believe it was called but I was confused. It was September 2019 at this time. In the pranks the YouTubers lived in Texas and we were tried off the job market where we were. My man started applying for jobs in Texas. He really wanted me to follow my dream. By October 2019 we moved to Texas. My dream grew drastically being in Texas. Everything so big and beautiful. I started to watch videos on how to grow on YouTube, I learned how to edit. I was so happy, still no time to sew, fine, I kept recording my family and changed the channel name to PeeMadeFamily.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To this day I struggle with finding community. I appreciate the people who do show up in the chat on livestream or in the comments of my long form and short form videos. However, I imagined it being different by now. It’ll be 5 years soon and I expected more community, more views, more opportunities. Then I think it’s only 5 years, that’s only the beginning. There’s so much more to accomplish in the next five years.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I graduated with my degree in Psychology in 2015. I worked in ABA Therapy for a year. I loved that job and thought I would do that well past a year. The job world was different than I expected. I was eventually offered a different position paying much less but more work so I quit. I wish I could have afforded to stay it was a great job just horrible pay. Half of what I was making in center I would have made in an elementary school. I went to a daycare about a year later and that was also a fail. At this time my daughter is telling me about YouTube. Fast forward to now my kids see me cook so much and just like before starting YouTube it’s my kids that are encouraging me to sell my food. I’ve been a stay at home mom since that daycare job. I’ve done Instacart and now DoorDash but I do want more. I still don’t see myself going back into the school system at the moment. I’m planning to do a pop up Sweet Potato Pie sale in my area. I do cook really well. I was brought on as a Food Creator with Newtralgroundz Instagram page. That’s when I knew my cooking could be something special. I think it’s important to focus on one thing that I cook really well that’s easy to make and sell and get people’s taste buds awake for what else I have to offer. Soon I can see PeeMade stickers on plates and pans of soul food ! I’m known for my resilience and patience. That’s keeps me grounded and motivated. My Faith in God keeps me and my family blessed.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
When I was about 7 I use to help record home videos with my mom. My mother had a camera and camcorder in the early 90s, she would actually record often. We have many home videos and pictures. Even exposures that need to be developed into photos. Well when I turned 7 after my little sister was born I took to taking pictures and recording videos. My mom would allow it and that made me so happy. I remember watching one vhs tape back a while ago and I would talk to the camera as if I was vlogging. It’s so funny that I’m now a Content Creator and teaching my kids how to record videos. They always say what you did for fun or what you loved will be something you grow into. I haven’t really told that story yet or shown the footage.
