Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymiah Jackson.
Raymiah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was a music teacher in the Houston area for over 10 years. I spent my entire career working in underserved areas (Title I schools) and preferred to make the children a priority over simply winning accomplishments. I experienced all of the ups and downs of the classroom, including lack of funding and the success of student performances. The time came to focus more on the needs of my family while still wanting to serve the community. I started Applied String Lessons in 2016 and Sentito Arts Foundation in 2017 to fulfill that purpose.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting something new is always a struggle when there isn’t a current model to compare it to. Applied String Lessons is a return to a traditional method of music consultations. In a large city like Houston, it helps to be mobile and flexible so a client can see the progression in learning at their own pace. One of the biggest obstacles was overcoming the issue of finding qualified specialists for instruction. This became increasingly important as my weekly calendar began to fill to capacity. As Applied String Lessons adds to this list of teachers this issue will be less troublesome. An online learning course has also been made available to combat this problem while expanding the reach of music education. The Fiddle Co. has been successful with those who have tried its downloadable tutorial videos and music files. Adequately learning an instrument does not have to be bound to a specific geographical location anymore, and one can find success at an affordable price!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Applied String Lessons – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Applied String Lessons is a music consultation company that allows a client to take music at their tempo through flexible onsite sessions or online learning opportunities. We specialize in orchestral strings, harp, guitar, and piano/keyboard. We are known for our sensible options for scheduling sessions and making payments. Clients can meet with specialists, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or simply to prepare for an important audition. My proudest moment comes from hearing someone say that they nailed their audition or advanced in their orchestras. What sets us apart is we do what’s right as opposed to what is profitable. Relationship and growth in the individual is the goal.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing about our area is the diversity in culture and the arts. It’s great to explore and find a new interest when the opportunity presents itself. The thing I like least about the city is the traffic.

Rayniah is an amazing teacher. My son at the age of 4 was so interested in music an Raymiah was able to tailor fit his lessons to what my son needed and was interested in. I love the outcome!
