Meet Houston’s Uprising Dj Go Dj Bobby Bandz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Aldrich.

Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised just outside of Chicago. I attended Purdue University for college, then moved to Houston in 2011. I’ve always had a love for music. I can remember at the age of 6 I would sneak my dad’s cassettes up to my room and listen to albums like Bone Thugs and Harmony “Creepin on ah Come Up”, 2Pac’s “All Eyez On Me”, Snoop Dogg’s “Murda was the Case” and Dead Presidents Soundtrack. This love for music never left and in 2014 with the influences of dope Houston dj’s like Dj Star Skywalker, Dj Big Reeks, Dj Red Soda, Go Dj Hi C, and Dj Mr Rogers, I decided to give djing a try. I bought myself a MacBook and controller and would practice for countless hours. I would go and shadow all the “Houston Greats” mentioned above. I would ask them for a set every week.

So finally, Big Reeks gave me a chance. He said hey come spin on Wax Wednesdays at Fox Hollow. I was excited but there was one issue. Wax meant vinyl. Not only did I not have any turntables or vinyl records, I had never played on them before either. I went and spent my rent money on turntables and records and taught my self how to use them in four days. Wednesday came and I killed it like I’d been doing it all my life. Sealed in a weekly slot on Sundays at Fox Hollow and haven’t looked back since. Today I am proud to say I am a full-time DJ.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road when it comes to being an entrepreneur. Clubs close, sometimes your hot, sometimes your not, some will undercut you. If you’re meant for this game you’ll dig deep and overcome the barriers. Djing gets overlooked a lot. We work late nights and every weekend so rarely get to spend time with family. Our social life becomes work. We spend hours downloading and organizing music to entertain people. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the bad hearing issues that comes with it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Go Dj Bobby Bandz – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I Dj Clubs and Bars throughout the Houston area. I also do private events such as weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties and corporate events.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on learning on how to produce my own music soon. I want to be @djkhaled big! Also, I would like to get booked for more traveling gigs. Vegas, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York holler at me!!
