Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Ali.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The vision for Chamak began as a result of not finding a beauty product line to carry in my wellness center that spoke to me and offered flattering colors for medium skin tones and ingredients that were wholesome and healing. Therefore; I decided to create one myself. As a small business with no connections, investors, public relations or marketing strategist, I grew the brand through friends, customers, referrals, Facebook posts and word of mouth and right away a small following formed. A year later and after much research, I started to teach myself how to make handcrafted cosmetics and developed custom blended products allowing customers to make exact match complexion products, lipstick, lip gloss and loose eyeshadows and much more. I also went to an aromatherapy school to train and added organic skincare and custom blend natural perfume services. The idea of Chamak as a lifestyle brand really went to the next level when I rediscovered one of my oldest passions: cooking/baking while visiting a chocolate shop in another town. After much thought, self-teaching, and attending advanced chocolate training at a pastry school, I added artisanal chocolates and confections to the Chamak concept. To our surprise and delight, the customers fell in love with each new addition and we began to receive orders nationally. The brand continued to blossom so we made a decision to open a brick/mortar store and opened our doors in August 2015. We have had an incredible time learning each day and figure out the retail world which is new to us. Aside from our product lines, we are also known for our amateur and professional classes and workshops on beauty and organic cosmetics making as well as chocolate making. Last but not least, people have truly enjoyed our one of a kind theme parties at Chamak which incorporate art, creativity and handcrafting.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenges have been understanding how to market effectively, finding packaging companies, and cosmetic labs and this has led to a lot of personal development, growth and continuous self-teaching. We celebrate each success and constantly try to understand how to improve.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chamak Cosmetics & Chocolates – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Chamak Cosmetics & Chocolates & Chamak Academy is a one of a kind lifestyle brand and concept which celebrates culture, creativity and art. We specialize in handcrafted cosmetics, beauty services including makeup artistry, henna artistry and hairstyling, artisanal chocolates and confections, parties and classes. I am most proud of creating a brand from scratch, with no media support, connections, or investors and building a growing and loyal customer base. We are nothing like any other brand: our concept, our handcrafted formulations, our one of a kind parties, customer service and dedication to researching and innovating new fresh products and services are what sets us apart. We also have re vamped our YouTube channel and will work to build our social media following as well.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We hope to continue building our product line, have launches scheduled soon and will be re introducing our current line with stylish packaging. This year we are focusing on getting our products on the shelves of local boutique shops and specialty stores as well as setting up an online store for customers. We continue to learn more, offer more services, classes and unique parties.
Also we have had interest in franchising both our beauty and our chocolate concepts so we will be looking into that as well. There are also ideas of expanding our business concept down the road by opening a 2nd location solely focused only gourmet products and perhaps a tea and dessert shop in a few years.
