Today we’d like to introduce you to Servanté Cook.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Servanté. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Five years ago, I wouldn’t believe it if someone said I’d be running my own business! After college, I worked in retail management and was very invested in growing in that field. I did pretty well for myself, running very high volume/ traffic stores. I was really passionate about leading teams and connecting with people in different cities. Somewhere along the way, I was inspired to give entrepreneurship a try. I started Tailored Moments in 2016! Essentially this was sought out to be an event planning business on the “side.” As I began to do more projects, I realized that I was truly in the right place. Curating moments for people really gives me a sense of purpose.
I had no idea, but I connected the dots, and it seemed that what interested me so much about retail is that I had a chance to impact lives through service. It was never about fashion or numbers, but 100% about being the connecting piece to someone’s big moment. When a guy shops for his wife’s anniversary gift he’ll never forget the people who helped him. When a woman is shopping for a dress to wear for her bachelorette party, she won’t forget the experience she had shopping for it! This is no different from us curating a baby shower, a bridal shower, or a 30th birthday party. These moments stick with people forever. So here I am! Almost four years in, and I couldn’t be happier!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing’s smooth! I’ve learned that no one knows what they’re doing. We all are figuring things out as we go. We learn, then apply it, so it’s easier the next time around. I believe one of the biggest struggles for me has been understanding sacrifice. While I’m blessed to live the life that I do, I have to say “no” a lot. For example, I want to live abroad for a couple of years. I have to understand that I’m growing something larger that will afford me to do whatever I want in the future. It’s tough to stay disciplined this way, while many people around you are possibly living a different lifestyle and have a different set of goals.
Tailored Moments – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tailored Moments, today is a creative curating company! We specialize in event design/ planning. New in 2020, we now offer creative direction for small businesses, set design, social media management, and creative brand consulting. I’m most proud of being able to stay true to our brand aesthetic. We take on projects that connect to us creatively, and work with clients that understand/ trust our vision. It’s rewarding to be in a place to say, “we’re not a good fit. Let us recommend someone who is.”
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is accomplishing the goals you set for yourself while also being humble enough to know when to adjust. Being able to impact your circle and those watching, is a level of success I hope to reach. I’m waiting on the day that I can give back by sharing my experiences with those traveling down a new or different path. I’m huge on working with people right here with me. I’d feel mad successful if my “big break” is the one that takes my tribe and myself to new levels.
