Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiane Siqueira.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from Brazil. There I grew, graduated as an Engineer, worked until I became a mom and our family accepted the challenge of moving for my husband’s work. I became a mom in Brazil, where 82 percent of all babies are born by C-section in private hospitals. And I wanted to be part of that 18 %. I started searching for information and connecting with local birth rights activists.
Since then, I could not step out of all things around birth. From my graduation field, I bring with me a constant search for evidence-based information for our family’s choices and to provide, as a Doula, the most up to date informational support to my clients. It was after the birth of my 2nd daughter, 3rd baby, that I went under training, mentoring and certified with a local midwife; got to know the amazing birth community in great Houston and served many families as a Doula.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can say the road was smooth if I look back to see the full picture. But there are many aspects of being a doula that are really challenging. Being on call is a big one. I am available 24/7 for each client starting on their 37th week until the baby is born, which can, in general, happens sometime between 37 and 42 weeks – about one month window (anything happens before that, I will be with them the same way).
Being on call means I won’t travel far from them in that period, and will join them once they are in labor any time, day or night, all the way to the birth of their baby, no matter how long labor is, and immediate postpartum. It means I sometimes am not present at one of the kids school activity, their friends birthday parties, holidays or other events.
But as I said, looking back, being on call has always worked out just fine, it is like everything happens at the time they should. Plus, it makes that Holliday even more special to me on the years to come, I love to receive a text message with a photo of a precious baby I witnessed enter the world on a special date/ holliday!
Tatiane Siqueira Doula – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a professionally trained and certified birth Doula providing doula support and education to families living in and around Sugar Land-TX. I became an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor in 2017, after completing extensive training in how to provide families with evidence based care. My compromise is to get to know what is important for each family on their most important time in life, the birth of their precious baby, and provide them with informational tools, physical and emotional support, with professionalism and kind care.
I am so thankful when I receive a testimonial from a mom or dad that want to share their experience with me as their doula. Just knowing they have found a time to write on those busy days with a little baby, makes it more special and I let them talk for me, I am proud of the families I support, the strong women bringing the future to the world, and am very thankful for being able to be there for them.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Doulas have a whole in birth that is both essential and not covered by any other professional. Real continuous support. I believe we tend to have more and more doulas, ensuring laboring women have all the tools they need to have the birth experience they desire and to allow more and more gentle birth for the next generations of babies. Michel Odent said, “to change the world, we must first change the way the babies are being born”. I love to be part of the change.
