Art & Life with Dicey Grenor,

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dicey Grenor.

Dicey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m an African American wife, mother, attorney, and author of racy fiction. I enjoy being analytical and thinking outside-the-box in professional and creative contexts. Before following my passion and writing fiction, I earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Public Administration, and Juris Doctor degree.

In 2011, I published my first novel, which set the tone for my brand of sexy, wild, daring, and risky stories. Fascinated by supernatural creatures and the dark side, I also published Vol. 1 of The Narcoleptic Vampire Series, in 2011. There are currently seven books in this erotic urban fantasy/ horror series, which brings my total to ten self-published books and three short stories.

I’m proud of writing multicultural characters and mixing genres. As a proponent for diversity and inclusion, I also created and moderated the Multiculturalism and Diversity in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror literary panel at Comicpalooza: The Texas International Comic Con, in 2014-2017. This year, during Memorial Day weekend, I will host two diversity and inclusion panels at Comicpalooza.

When I’m not writing multilayered characters in intense, unpredictable plots, I enjoy working out, watching TV/ movies, reading, and attending comic cons, porn conventions, and rock concerts. Though my residence is Houston, Texas, I enjoy interacting with people from across the world via social media and traveling. I make it my mission to live every day to the fullest and encourage others to do the same.

Can you give our readers some background on your art? I create racy books and short stories. By that I mean I create stories that push boundaries. They challenge a person’s way of thinking about a situation or about a character they don’t normally read about. Sometimes, I use taboo sex scenes. Other times, violence. And other times, dialogue, where the characters flesh out problems and solve them. I do this because I like to be different, I see the world differently than most people who are similarly situated. I want people to challenge readers’ beliefs to the point they either reject or affirm them. In the meantime, while reading my stories, I hope my readers are entertained. My characters go through turmoil that hopefully, my readers won’t.

I am inspired by everything, but my writing is muse-driven. When I find myself obsessing over an actor, rock star, or porn star, I create different realities in my head featuring them. Sometimes, my muses know who they are and are flattered. That’s an amazing feeling, but not why I write. I write their make-believe stories to clear my own thoughts and feelings. I’m thrilled when readers can appreciate the multi-layers in my stories.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Ahhh. Being an artist IS lonely. We live and bleed for our art, and only other artists can understand this consuming fire. We are also some of the most difficult people to deal with, so we don’t often get along. My advice–find your tribe. Period. Find people with the same interests as you and support each other through those lonely moments. Other authors don’t necessarily vibe with me because of my polarizing brand, but I have musicians, adult entertainers, models, podcasters, and graphic designers that do. You don’t have to find people that do what you do. Just find people that love you for doing what you do.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My books, the ones that haven’t been banned yet, are online where most books are sold. They are in eBook and paperback formats on Amazon, Smash words (adult filter turned off), Barnes & Noble, iTunes, and Kobo. For an interested reader’s convenience, I have links on my website: www.diceygrenorbooks.com.

For anyone who would like to support my work outside of or in addition to reading my books, I also have a Patreon page, where I post exclusive erotic short stories and racy pics for subscribers only: www.patreon.com/diceygrenor.

If someone wants to support me, but they aren’t interested in reading my books or subscribing to my Patreon, they can always shout me out on social media and/or tell their friends, family, and acquaintances about my work. There’s always a way to support an artist, and I appreciate it all.
