Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Hemsworth.
Kara, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My passion for art and especially character design started as a little girl, as I was fascinated by Disney characters. I earned a VFA at The Ohio State University and a 2D Animation education at ACC under exceptional professors.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My message of inspiration is to capture and intensify beautiful moments that evoke the viewer to become submerged in that second of beauty. That beauty is expressed through portraits, character designs, fanart of scenes in movies, and relationships.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I once read a quote in an article that had said, “On living your dream- In my 20’s I worked as a waitress and wrote on my off-hours. I remember asking myself, “If you never get published or have any success, if you have to spend the rest of your life being a waitress, is this still what you want to do?” And I thought, “Absolutely,” Making art is my happiness.” This really validated my own feelings of doubt and assured me that we are all here on this planet to do what makes us happy- and that is your success!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can commission me for a character design or I can freelance work out!. I do family photos, pet portraits, your kids with their favorite superhero or character, cartoons, scenes from your vacations, you name it! I make logos, designs for wrapping paper, greeting cards, etc. I also freelance my fine art painting skills for maps/portraits/landscapes for invitations in the wedding industry.
