Art & Life with Lauren Holub

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Holub.

Lauren, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started a love of photography early on in high school. From there and on into college, I began taking photos of things and people that interested me! After college, I met some amazing wedding photographers from Richmond who graciously took me under their wing and taught me everything they knew. That was truly a blessing too because not only did I learn everything about the camera, but I had to think quick on my feet in every lighting scenario as a wedding photographer. I started out as their assistant and then eventually became a second shooter at all things wedding. As they started moving out of the wedding business, I moved into the photography industry, but mainly focused on families and kids. It wasn’t until my friends started having babies that I truly found my love and passion for newborn photography which is where the majority of my sessions are today!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a photographer! I photograph moments in time that my clients will hold dear for years to come. My goal as a photographer is to capture those sweet interactions between mom/dad/brother/sister/pet/cousin/friend/grandma/grandpa/etc. I LOVE capturing connection. I feel that when you can capture a connection it truly tells the story. When mom holds their baby’s hand, she will forever remember the touch of that soft skin, or when dad looks into his little girl’s eyes, he will forever remember the innocent laughter and giggles. THOSE are the moments that mean the most to me, and I truly think that when my clients look back at those pictures and see those laughing/snuggling moments, it will bring up those past memories that will make them reminisce of the “good ol’ days”!

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I truly believe all art is fluid. There is no right or wrong way to express your artwork, nor is there a box that it should fit in. Everyone is unique and different and art definitely reflects that! I really don’t think that art has changed all that much in that sense of the expression. I do think what is portrayed within that art piece definitely affects the art. An artist can be as expressive, or non-expressive as they want to be. That’s the beauty of art!

As of right now, my personal photography style is to take out all of the local/national/international events/issues and really dive down and capture the individual person! That’s what I do. I want the onlooker to see THAT person to the core and how THEY interacted and loved each other. Events and issues will constantly be changing, and we get enough from the media/social media to continue to be bombarded with negative thoughts. But capturing a person at the moment, that is what I want people to truly remember.
