Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia.
Nadia, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My story is pretty crazy, my Jewish-American mother who happened to be in law school, fell in love with a Mexican bolero singer while she was teaching English in Mexico. Six years later I was born. I grew up listening to both American and Mexican influential artists ranging from Juan Gabriel to Diana Ross. When I started writing material for my album, I couldn’t help but to draw from these different influences. I’m a spicy Latina who likes do dance traditional cumbia but I am also banging screw listening to Beyoncé’s “Lemonade.”
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I started writing songs to boys when I was 12 years old … and ever since then it’s been the only way I know how to communicate my feelings. I’m a sucker for love. I talk about the good, bad, the ugly, and everything in between. These are freeze frame moments in time that I can go back and relive. My listeners connect with me because the songs are real. Everyone is going through a heartbreak or falling in love. I want people to listen to my music and remember some of the good times and maybe even some of the bad times. These heartbreaks are the moments that make or break us. And I don’t know about you…but I ain’t trying to be broken.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
The most difficult thing for me has been to keep focus on my own journey and not compare mine to anyone else’s. I am a true believer in patience and timing…I remind myself that slow and steady wins the race. I would advise artistic to surround themselves with like-minded people. Support other artists!!
I am so grateful to be surrounded by creatives who want the same thing I do. I have an incredible team of people who push me to be my best self, who tell me if they don’t like a song, a video, a picture, or if I could be working a little harder. Having this network of people has opened many doors, because if your team believes in you they will make sure everyone else does.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
