Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Miller.
Diana, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have loved art my entire life but came to call myself an artist late in life. I have been painting about 8 years and have taken some classes but I am mostly self-taught. I love realism. On museum visits I was drawn to the larger than life art works by the Old Masters and dreamed that one day when I was grown up my home would be graced with original art. Becoming an artist has allowed that dream to come true. I have kept some of my early pieces so I can look back and remind myself I have grown in the craft. As an artist I constantly grow and evolve so I feel there is more to come. But for now, I love taking a blank canvas and figuring out the mystery of producing the painting I want it to be.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love realism and painting in oil. I like to apply glazes to develop a deep richness of color. Lately I find I like to add a bit of humor to a painting. Maybe add a quirky smile or have the character’s express humor. I really enjoy watching people’s reaction to my art whether it’s joy, surprise or simply being wowed. Life is such a wonder and I want my art to express that wonderful wonder.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Wow, yes! I can’t relate to an artist being lonely. I joined the Art League of Fort Bend and formed a bond with the league artist that has lasted. I would suggest an artist join an art league, art center or art organization and help educate the public about art. At the Fort Bend Art Center, we have free “Open Art Days” were we wheel in our supplies and join another artist in the classroom to make art. And recently we hosted “Art till You Drop” which allows working artist to come late and stay late. Artist build relationships when they work together.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I reside in Richmond but my art heart belongs to the Fort Bend Art Center which is in downtown Rosenberg. My art can be found in the art center’s main gallery, the Mayde W. Butler Gallery, and in other galleries in the downtown area. You can see my work on my website at dianamillerart.com
