Check out Jeresneyka Rose’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeresneyka Rose.

Jeresneyka, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always had a knack for art. My father was an artist in Panama. He mainly did mural work throughout grade school. I would have to say my love for art started with him. We would draw together when I was very young, probably before I even started Kindergarten. I never took an art class. I just created for the fun of it. I was featured in museums throughout elementary school, but entering middle school I started to love reading and stopped drawing. In high school, I started drawing again. I was set on going to art school, but a friend told me I wasn’t good enough and would never get in, so I stopped creating. In 2013, my ex-boyfriend bought me canvases, paint and brushes for Valentine’s Day since he knew of my love for art. Once we broke up, I found the art supplies in the closet where I had stored them and decided to paint. The rest is history.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a visual artist. Under my brand, ArtByRizzo, I create paintings, digital illustrations, apparel, and collectibles. My medium of choice for painting is acrylic. Regarding my digital work, I use Procreate on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. My main objective as an artist is to obtain a position where I can grow as an artist (skill, mediums, and style), support the community, and promote multiculturalism, diversity, equality, and respect. My biggest hope is when people see my art that they are looking at something they can relate to. Relativity and representation are very important to me. What you should know about my art is that everything I create is of significance to me. I know it’s hard to stay true to yourself in a world where we have to change or settle to fit in, make money, etc. I strive to stay true to myself and create pieces that are derived from memories, inspiration, motivation, and joy.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
In my opinion, success as an artist means being able to do what you love, create freely, and be financially comfortable. The main characteristic that is essential to finding success as an artist is consistency. Life as an artist is not easy. Financially, you have great months and then you have months when you don’t know how you’re going to eat. Creatively, sometimes you are caught between compromising your vision to either make money, gain interaction on social media, or appease a client. Aside from consistency, it is important to work hard and never give up. It’s definitely easier said than done, but when times are hard and you don’t think you can keep going, just remember you can. Pressure bursts pipes, but it also makes diamonds.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
