Check out Kathryn Legendre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Legendre.

Kathryn, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Originally from San Antonio, I now live in Austin, where I support my music habit with a full-time job in marketing. I call my music honky-tonk, reminiscent of the music found in Texas dancehalls, but my take on it – custom. Most will tell you that I’ve always gone against the mainstream, and that encompasses my whole outlook on songwriting and, well, life.

I tend to thrive when it feels something is missing in my world of music, but also take pride in the ability to relate to the human condition. As a result, I’ve built a catalog consisting of my 2013 debut album Old Soul, Summer 2014 single, “Have You Forgotten Me?,” and 2016 EP Don’t Give A Damn.

And, the buck doesn’t stop there – you can expect my new EP Making It Up, on May 17, 2019.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’ve never written a song the same way twice; sometimes it’s prompted, or drawn out over years of drafts – but my songs tend to have real-life experiences influencing them. I currently perform my original material, as a means to reach more ears, but my favorite part of this process is writing the song. The feeling I get after writing a song I’m proud of is so different from the feeling I get after playing a good show.

I often relate to ordinary people who don’t necessarily realize they’re extraordinary – you see them at the local bar, wait in line with them at the grocery store, or fill up your tank beside them. I like to think my artwork reflects that – real life.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I still have a full-time job to support my music habit. I’m very lucky to work within the music industry and for a company that supports my art (and my bank account), but when my 9-5 gets busy, it tends to take away from my creative time. It’s a definite balancing act.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Live shows are the best way to interact, but I’m all over the internet (as long as you know how to correctly spell my name) – you can find everything you want at www.kathrynlegendremusic.com.
