Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Henderson.
Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been doing Locs for over 13yrs, initially started experimenting with them when I was in college. During Covid, I began contemplating the thought of leaving corporate America due to wanting more flexibility and freedom in my work schedule. Later that year, I was offered the opportunity to work in a salon alongside a Master Loctician. With many years experience, this allowed me to further perfect my craft and gain much more knowledge on Loc maintenance. From there, I ventured off and started Beauty Defined, LLC; and here we are today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve wanted to be a business owner as far back as I can remember; however, this has not been a smooth road by any means. It takes an extreme amount of confidence to start your own business; this is something I lacked and honestly still struggle with. In addition, it takes a lot of discipline and commitment; you have to be self-driven. These are things that I’ve picked up along the way. Once implemented adequately, success is inevitable.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a certified Loctician, owner of Beauty Defined, LLC. A salon where our motto is “So Much More Than Hair!”. I specialize in Loc maintenance and overall haircare.
I am most proud of starting a successful business from the ground up. When you enter the door of my salon, you’re treated like family and given a professional personal experience, and that’s what sets us apart from the rest!
What makes you happy?
Being of service to others is what genuinely makes me happy. Knowing that I’ve had a direct part in changing lives is such a rewarding feeling. When you look good, you feel good, which makes hair the perfect industry for me.
