Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Valencia.
Hi Courtney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Courtney Valencia and I am a hairstylist in Pearland, TX. I have always had a passion for the beauty industry from styling my Barbie’s as a child, then cutting hair when I was 12, to glamming classmates in Highschool for prom. I was able to convince my parents I could turn my hobby into a career. I graduated from Remington College Webster, TX in 2016 and shortly after started off as an associate (assistant) where I accumulated a great deal of knowledge. After 2 kids and COVID hit I wasn’t sure I wanted to follow through with my career but I couldn’t stay away from it. I spent the time I took away from the industry taking classes and perfecting my craft. On a whim, I decided too jump back in my career and have flourished in just a year.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My path has not been an easy one, after five years in the industry moving an hour from my hometown I had to start fresh and rebuild my clientele. As an introvert, putting myself out there in a new city where I knew no one was extremely challenging. Social media was the greatest tool I could’ve asked for! Creating Reels/TikTok to showcase my personality and coming up with interesting ways to grab potential clients’ attention became a lifesaver! I now have my dream clientele!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As Cosmetologists, we are able to do a wide variety of services. I love to use the analogy that while doctors have a vast knowledge of health most choose to specialize in a specific area of the body. The same is with hairstylists, we are able to do anything in the beauty industry but I choose to specialize in Advanced Color Techniques, Corrective Color, and my all-time favorite Blonding! I feel a great deal of confidence knowing that I can use my specialties to make my guests feel beautiful.
What’s next?
Currently, my goal for the future is to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone and continue my education. I will be attending an extension certification class in late 2022 which will not only expand the services that I offer but will bring in potential guests!
