Today we’d like to introduce you to D The Business.
Hi D The Business, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born Donavin Hogan better known by my stage name D The Business formerly known as Lil’ D. I gained fame at just 10 years of age as a rapper in the early 2000s alongside my cousin Romeo Miller (formerly Lil’ Romeo) after signing with No Limit Records, then owned and founded by my cousin, Master P. I’m from the Mo City (Missouri City) area of Houston, Tx with my lineage beginning in New Orleans, Louisiana. I got to where I am today by being consistent, never giving up, staying true to self, and leveraging all of the experiences I learned over the years during my come up.
As a music artist and serial entrepreneur who wears many hats, including being CEO of my own independent label L.I.E. Entertainment (Loyalty Is Everything), I am steadily defining what it means to be a Hip Hop mogul. Every goal I’ve accomplished has me on track to becoming a colossal figure in mainstream music and business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t an easy smooth road by far being independent and self funded. I had to DIY many aspects of my career like self engineering in the studio, directing and editing my own videos, graphics designing for merch and album covers, to founding, structuring, and scaling several businesses outside of music really made being vertically integrated become a necessity at times. But entrepreneurs pay the price of a road less traveled, while many people take the freeway and perpetually miss their own exit to greatness. Sometimes you have to be bold enough to live life on your terms, go against the grain and refuse to conform because if you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the path of ordinary. Obstacles and challenges are lessons that will make you stronger once you learn from them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a rapper, actor, serial entrepreneur, and real estate agent. The thing that sets me apart is my authenticity and what I bring to the business from a mogul standpoint inspiring people to diversify their hustle like investing in multiple industries, retaining ownership and teaching them they could use something like real estate for example to buy back the block and rehab the neighborhoods they grew up in. One thing I’m proud of is the fact that my name and my work is becoming synonymous with being a successful mogul.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a natural leader who was motivated, ambitious, and independent. I matured faster than a lot of my peers due to me touring the world early as an entertainer at age 12 and because my environment coming up was rough at times. I was always a seeker of knowledge and a great b-ball player coming from a family of basketball players. This skill at one point allowed me to be coached by LeBron James under the guidance of Michael Jordan in California. However, my interest has always been heavy in music and obtaining a substantial amount of generational wealth.
