Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj LoLo.
Hi Dj, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, I was inspired to get into music by my next door neighbor who was a music producer by the name of “One Eye.” Seeing celebrityhood was really the normal for me such as; ICE CUBE, MACK 10, SNOOP DOGG, WC… And the list goes on. One of my favorite rappers growing up DJ QUIK. DJ QUIK had a different style of music, what made his music different, he had his own unique sound. I first started actually DJing back when I was 15 on my mom’s computer. It kept me out of the streets and was a great feeling when you can hear yourself create sound or express an idea that the world will relate to. I moved to Houston in 2003 and I’ve been here ever since with my mother, brother and sister. I didn’t really know much about the “South” and how the music was down here in Houston TX. The type of artists that were local here was a lot different than in California, I realized I had a lot to learn. I picked up my Dj career around 2017. I threw my first party for New Year I was excited, but being a perfectionist I had to perfect it, make it better, improve my delivery. One thing about this rap game is you have to have a tight “circle”: PRODUCERS, PUBLISHERS, PROMOTION, AND VISUAL, and throughout my career, I’ve met amazing people who have helped me to achieve the small goals in my career foundation. I feel as if GOD had another plan for me it would be more clear. Music is where I want to be and I will give it my all to provide for my family.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Yea, there were some struggles dealing with janky promoters stealing Ideas for branding and marketing and shady artist that don’t want to spend the money to help their career.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DJ but Not just any Dj. I’ve put out four albums with different artists. I’ve put out compilation albums. I’ve worked on radio stations and I gain a lot of my inspiration from DJ Khaled, he’s really my motivation and my inspiration behind what I do because everything he does is big and I try to match the vibe. What I’m most proud of is being able to put out a compilation tape with over 20 different artists and I have relationships with all of them. What sets me apart from others is the fact that my grind is unmatched. I make my own flyers. I throw my own parties. I book my own venues. I create my own crowd.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I to find success as being able to do what you want to do freely every day without having to answer to a 9 to 5 my success comes from the hard work and networking skills that I have.
