Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Nando Ojeda.
Hi Dj Nando, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Started out as a 13 years old @the den (oscar’s club, rick’s den) I already knew music because I wasn’t allowed to listen to rap. I 1st heard Motown & Tejano (when I heard Tejano I was hooked) I studied & learn to play instruments & played for da best Mariachi Meca. But after practicing I would hear Tejano & other music & go to bars & clubs & DJs. Watching people dance, looking @ hardcore gangsters move their heads I learned they enjoyed the music as much as I did. I continued to learn transitions & soon I became club area 45 house dj & most valuable popular Tejano DJ & made #1 Tejano DJ for club area 45 in Houston & San Antonio, TX. I wanted to do other events & travel & open up a new world so I had to be the change for people to see. I started djing everywhere I could get into & travel even if it was not a lot of money. I hustled every time. I now do the show’s at Harley Davidson of kingwood & woodlands with a variety of styles of Harley Davidson motorcycles & till this day I am very thankful for being a part of Harley Davidson with victoria Lynn Ball & Jason Ball & David Ball. An interest was taking in me & I was ready. I DJ almost in anyplace & traveled from all types of occasions. I have brought the community together in other ways people said wouldn’t happen. As DJ Nando my motto is “it’s show time” full of excitement, lol, fun, enjoyment & when DJ Nando is mixing on the 1’s & 2’s the dance floor does not lie!! DJ Nando puts it in yo life in style.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth, it’s been rough, I have been unemployed, I know what it’s like to have nothing. I have always worked, hustled & always tried my best to keep god 1st in everything even when I didn’t have faith in myself. But like they always say as long as you are good in your life & 1st you can never lose.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work for a sec (energy transfer) gas & oil. I have DJ music, played, and recorded all my life. My music is a hobby but I had no idea I would become DJ Nando @ all. I learn to study because of my directors in Mariachi Meca & learn to appreciate the craft & skills. Education is big in my vocabulary because of how I learned. I am most proud of god because he allows me to see, jam out da way I feel in my heart, to witness people smiling, having a blast. Da best part is I’m just me little ole DJ Nando who gets up @ 4am to drive 1.5hr to work & say thank you.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid is not a joke. I am a covid survivor. I was 60 seconds away from being pronounced brain dead because I had no oxygen. I spent 2.5 months in the hospital ICU & one month at home recovering. Then I came back to work & started djing again slowly so I therapy myself in excercise & did what my doctor asked me to do. I would test myself in djing live on FB & @ times my mix was not clean but it sure did motivate me to get that skill back & jam & when I did DJ Nando “Mr. Show time” was back & I was not stopping I had a smile telling myself it’s show time!
