Check Out Jordan and Joan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan and Joan.

Hi Jordan and Joan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We both began doing photography and videography at young ages, either posing our siblings for photoshoots or shooting on the sidelines at sporting events. It just always was part of our lives, like an innate extension of our creativity and callings.

We had been friends for a while when the opportunity arose for Jordan to photograph Joan’s home birth. Joan had been a birth doula-tographer for a while, but now it was her turn to be in front of the camera. There aren’t many things in life that bring you closer together than being completely exposed and roaring a baby out, haha! Needless to say, our relationship grew exponentially from there.

Through divine interactions and confirmations, we knew the next step for us mom-togs was to join forces with our giftings and to step out in faith and start a joint venture. We’ve since experienced so much favor and blessing, and we’re hopeful and expectant of what the future of our business holds!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Besides the occasional spam inquiries and a pretty saturated market, we’ve honestly felt so much grace beginning our business together, a decision that took a lot of prayers, patience, and support from our husbands and children. We’ve grown so much since we’ve begun our photography and videography business, and we’ve been able to serve numerous clients in each of their unique life seasons!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We love capturing every season of life through photography and videography: from the endearing “I do’s”, to the expectant baby bump; from a child’s first breath, to their first birthday cake smash; from those annual family photos, to those senior school portraits… We capture it all! The most important milestones in life are what we desire to pause in time through our gifts in photography and videography. With having a studio on waterfront property, as well as access to plenty of scenic locations around Houston, our possibilities are endless in the creative moments we’re able to capture.

One thing (of many) we’re grateful for is the wide demographic of clients that we serve from literally all parts of the world! Our very own multi-ethnic identities and life experiences give us a great love and appreciation for people from all cultures.

A few things that set up apart are that:

1.) We’re able to follow our clients through each special moment of life, watching them grow from a couple to a family.

2.) We are a team of creatives with a variety of experiences and trainings in BOTH photography and videography.

3.) While we each have similar views on what we capture, which makes for cohesive work, we both offer unique perspectives beyond what a single photographer or videographer could produce.

4.) In a time of hospital visitation limitations, having doula certification allows access to most Houston hospitals to capture that miraculous moment of childbirth (and we certainly attend out-of-hospital births)!

5.) We value relationship and connection and desire to make each session a memorable and bonding experience.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Connecting on social media with other artists had been great for expanding our own creativity, and has aided in our business growth. We’ve also been grateful to have shadowed others in our field, and made those divine connections through friends and colleagues.
