Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyaa Cole.
Hi Joyaa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Making candles started as a hobby but with the constant urge to want to challenge myself… I decided to take things further and start a business. It took me 2 1/2 years to officially launch as I took this time to research and formulate a brand. I ended up launching during the pandemic and like most, I was afraid (to start during the pandemic) but to my surprise, Joe and Monroe would become very successful through it all!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! There are always hurdles to overcome. What would have been ‘Plan A’ turns into Plan B and sometimes Plan C. The biggest thing that I have had to learn was to be flexible and not so rigid and learn to pivot and change courses. I am a very plan/detail-oriented person so that has been a huge challenge for me to overcome. Nonetheless, this lesson has help me in other areas of my life by learning that sometimes what you thought you wanted might not be what you really need!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My background is Healthcare IT but I currently work as a Project Manager (still in healthcare). The best way that I can explain my job is that I perform the analysis of data related to patient care, productivity, process efficiency, and clinic workflows to develop a work plan for achieving greater provider satisfaction, improved access to care, increased patient satisfaction, and foster operational efficiencies.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say determination, resilience, and practicing faith.
