Check Out Payton Howie’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Payton Howie.

Hi Payton, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a love for music! They tell me I sang before I spoke but the most pivotal moment for me was my first concert at 5 years old. It was a Carrie Underwood concert, her Some Hearts tour, and a spotlight caught me dancing in the aisle in a pink cowboy hat and boots. Carrie requested her security guard bring me up on stage. I’ll never forget holding her hand, looking up at her, and singing with her. It was surreal. I looked out and saw the faces of everybody and just this sea of people. I knew right then and there what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road I’m on with my music journey has been so many things. I would never say that it’s been rough because when I look back behind me on the road and how far my fans and supporters have carried me to this point at just 20 years old, I’m completely humbled and feel overwhelmingly supported. Have there been bad things that have happened? Absolutely. The music business is not for the weak and you get a quick lesson in people. You’ve got to be careful when you’re out there trying to build a brand and stay true to yourself. This business will pull you in all different directions and it’s difficult sometimes to keep your head down and just stay on the grind of focusing on what’s best for your art and your brand.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a country rock recording artist that goes between Texas and Nashville. I love getting to play live shows across the country and bringing kick-ass energy to live performances is what I’m known for. There’s honestly nothing that compares to sharing your art with people in a way that’s moving and exhilarating.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
One of the best books I’ve ever read is a Johnny Cash biography called CASH that I found at a side-of-the-road gas station while on tour. He talks about his experiences and the kind of life he lived. I recall him saying something along the lines of looking back on his life and how far he comes he sees how he lived his life from jail to Jesus and that definitely stuck with me.
