Check Out Renee Herndon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Herndon.

Hi Renee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I discovered the raw vegan lifestyle in 2007. I was a flight attendant for Continental (United) Airlines for 20 years.   After getting certified by Alissa Cohen (author of Living on Live Food and Raw Food For Everyone), I began teaching classes through her program. I was also doing raw food demos at Whole Foods. I Also began working my business as a Personal Chef (serving clients such as Mike Adams, The Health Ranger). Another client of mine was Donna Leonard of Tru Meals/Diet Gourmet in Houston, TX. She loved my food and offered me a partnership to work my business through hers. So, I did and The True Detox Box was born! After 6 months of juggling both careers, I prayerfully decided to retire from flying and work my raw food business full time.  When Tru Meals/Diet Gourmet closed in April 2013, I was still interested in continuing my professional business.  At that point, my Darling Hubby saw an article on food trucks and the idea to have a fully raw, vegan, gourmet living food trailer was born!

My first trailer was a cute little green trailer I affectionately called “Henrietta”.  She was really old, but faithful for 5 years!  Then, I upgraded to a brand new orange trailer I called “The Traveling Carrot”. I was blessed to upgrade further this year and now I have a drivable food truck. I offer walkups as well as provide an online order system which features more food choices. All meals are fully raw vegan, plant-based, and delicious! Nothing is cooked…I don’t even have a stove in my truck! Even though the words “food truck” and “healthy” usually don’t go together, I’m happy to provide a better option for people who want the best food on the planet. 😃

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting my first trailer “Henrietta” certified was a struggle. I was denied the first time, but I didn’t give up. I fixed what they said I needed to and came back.

There are times when business is slow, which can be hard. But, because my overhead is low, I weather the storm. I don’t feel like I’m competing with other food trucks. I stay in my lane and do “me”. My business is unique and I truly love what I do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in raw vegan cuisine. I am known for my Bento Box (a sampling Platter of 5 of the most popular meals), Raw Nachos (I make my own chips), Raw Pizza (I make and dehydrate the crust), Mock Tuna Rolls, and more!

I’m most proud of myself for keeping my Spiritual life and my family first and my business second. I don’t work on Sundays, that’s family and worship time. Jesus said to keep a simple eye, and that’s what I do.

What sets me apart is that my food truck offers fully raw vegan, plant-based meals.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is being with my Mom and my Sisters eating dinner or cracking jokes. More than once, someone observed us and offered to pay for our meal! Our family is very close and full of love. ❤❤❤
