

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Kheshtkar.
Hi Sara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I spent my entire childhood around flowers or in some family-owned greenhouse. So, I have been around flowers my whole life. I have over 10-years of experience in marketing, sales, sourcing, leadership, organization, design, brand awareness, and project management. For me, Beyond Bloems is the by-product of all my years of experience on and off the flower fields. Bringing together everything that I enjoy; flowers, planning, creating, designing, the list goes on. And now all these years later my love for flowers has turned into a small business that brings me so much joy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The thing is, I wanted to bring emotion into an industry that felt like it had lost its connection to feelings. I wanted each design to reflect the sender’s message and convey their emotion; by using the energy of flowers and their unique color variations. I find it challenging to fit people, their words, and or emotions into boxes; so, I wanted to offer people a chance to express how they felt more uniquely. Therefore, instead of offering pages of options that used the same flowers in different compositions we offer a variety of “designer mix” perfect for literally everyone.
However, having a website with no sample work was a challenge. People simply didn’t know what to expect when they got on our site. Instead, I used that to my advantage by building the website myself and restructuring it every few months to see what resonated with buyers. And while I don’t have it all figured out yet, we’re surely getting there. Overall, I would say it’s been very rewarding getting through the challenges and learning something new every single day from our peers, customers, and fans.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I believe what sets me apart is my attitude and my love for designing. My friends would call me “D-I-Y SARA”; because I truly believe that if there’s anything you want to learn, you absolutely can; as long as you’re DETERMINED, PASSIONATE, and CONSISTENT. Before starting Beyond Bloems, I had never worked a day in my life as a florist or a wedding and event stylist. However, in under 8-months, I’ve designed and executed weddings, birthday parties, memorial services, holiday parties, retail spaces installations, and pop-ups with the help of my amazing family and friends. And this mindset has served me well over the years and in growing Beyond Bloems.
How do you define success?
I don’t believe success is a quantitative measure. I believe by putting a value on something we’re taking away its ability to perform at its potential. And just because something is great doesn’t mean it can’t be better. So, to me, success is a mindset; it’s an attitude. Individually, I measure success by celebrating every milestone and learning from my mistakes, my peers, and their mistakes along the way. And as for Beyond Bloems, I measure success by the joy on people’s faces once a design has been delivered; and, I find it to be more rewarding.
