Check Out Tiffany Lam’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Lam.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am Tiffany Lam, a PRO makeup artist. I was born and raised in Houston, TX, but my passion for makeup started in Austin, TX where I attended and graduated from the University of Texas. Growing up with severe eczema and acne, makeup became my security blanket during my teen years and early adulthood. When I learned that I could use my passion for art and create something beautiful through makeup, I was hooked! I want to give this passion back to the community by offering services to anyone who wants to feel special, confident, and uplifted on their special day. Before I ever picked up a brush, I’d always dreamed of someone doing my makeup on my wedding day. In 2018, I got my makeup done as a bridesmaid by a MAC artist. Since then, I worked at Sephora for 2 years as a certified beauty advisor where I gained a diverse portfolio. I also trained as a hair and makeup artist during college for a fashion and editorial magazine, and I explored my artistic style in me, doing makeup that looks deeper than surface-level makeup. Now, I decided to open up my own business so that I can spread this wonderful feeling among as many people as possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge so far has been to stay true to my heart and follow my dreams. I went through many difficulties with my family and loved ones who didn’t understand why I wanted to become a makeup artist. Being raised by immigrant parents came with high expectations of how I was going to spend my life. I went to college to become a doctor, and after sophomore year, I decided to switch majors and graduate in advertising and marketing to benefit my makeup career. I will say, there were a lot of tears living in constant fear that my family would never approve. But I learned that my family would still be proud of me only if I were myself. I learned so much about my artistry throughout the years, and I have never felt so happy about where I am at and where I am going to be. There have been so many times when I questioned my self-worth and whether I was good enough to carry on my own. Fear is one of the hardest challenges I had to get through (and I still have fear now), but knowing that I have such a great support system is all I need to push through.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a self-taught makeup artist that grew from outside views and techniques. Learning from other makeup artists, I could absorb all the material and perform. I used my own technique from painting and passed it over to makeup, realizing that good makeup takes determination, practice, and a steady hand. I specialize in multiple styles of makeup artistry including editorial, photoshoot, bridal, and special events. I have had a history of doing makeup on film production sets and runway makeup, but honestly, I am wherever the opportunity takes me. I think what sets me apart is that I am versatile, and I am not afraid to take on a challenge. I want to see where my limit takes me because I thrive when I have creative freedom. For example, I’m known for my graphic-liner work, so clients will come to me asking me for something different or edgy. I also provide 1-on-1 makeup classes for clients who want to learn and perfect their makeup skills – any levels welcome!

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I think my favorite part about being a makeup artist is the client relationships I have. As a professional, I offer luxurious and professional services to all my clients. During a makeup application, I focus on every detail and spend extra time on those hard-to-reach places—I make the application custom for each person in order to accentuate her personal beauty. I really want them to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin. This is why their particular beauty needs are always considered a top priority when customizing each application. I do my best to use the skills I have learned to help each person look amazing!
