Today we’d like to introduce you to Tran Dang.
Tran, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Aussie here! I left Australia several years ago and made a home in London, where I lived for a few years. Then had an opportunity to move to Romania, where I was before making the move again across the ocean to Houston Texas. Living in these places allowed me to travel to the surrounding countries and capture the scenic landscapes I’ve been so lucky to witness.
I’ve always had a major love for photography (really any form of art) and it never crossed my mind to turn it into a business. Until a couple of years ago, it hit me! Why don’t I turn my hobby into a business. And so, I took the leap and Si Creative Photography was born.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a portrait, lifestyle and wedding photographer. I have a journalistic approach to photography, capturing the moments as they unfold. I want my images to spark the feelings that were felt at that point in time, whenever looked upon. Because it’s not just an image, it’s an emotion.
I like to use the warmth, light and shade the environment provides to capture images that tell a story without words. After all, they do say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’
The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
It can be very costly to start and run a business. However, there are creative ways and social platforms to create exposure for your business.
The social platforms are of course Facebook and Instagram, that everyone is aware of. And they are free to use!
– Post good quality images, using related hashtags
– Keep your images in line with your business brand, that way your whole feed looks appealing
– Share stories or fun facts about yourself, so that it humanizes the user experience. This lets people connect with the person behind the brand.
Other ways to generate exposure for yourself is to connect with vendors in the industry. There are numerous meet-up groups you can attend. Even if people aren’t in the same industry, you never know. Word of mouth is everything. Collaborations are also a great way to work with vendors and create that connection for future possibilities.
It all takes a lot of hard work and it’s not a walk in the park. Progress is better than perfection. It can be discouraging on some days but keep moving forward and build exposure for your brand.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
