Community Highlights: Meet Elizabeth Mireles of Glam By Eli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Mireles.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Dallas, Tx. From a very young age, I had a very strong influence for beauty from my parents. Before I was even born, my mom and dad were both cosmetologists. They owned & ran their own beauty salon in Mexico, which at first started from nothing and quickly became a very successful and busy business. Things were not always easy for them though. Coming here they sort of had to give up their dream for a better future for my siblings and I. Growing up, I followed their steps into the beauty industry and now my goal is to give back to my parents, in many ways as I can. Which brings me to today, with God’s help, I want to be able to work hard and make my parents proud!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been easy. I think now that I am older I realize that one of the biggest struggles for me was never really financial. I realize now that what I struggled with most was my own self. Doubt, fear of failure, and insecurity are all things that held me back for a long time. These things make it really hard for anyone to be successful. It took some time, and I’m not going to lie I sometimes to this day still struggle with these feelings, but I continue to strive and become the best version of myself. Being the best me, allows me to give the best to my business. As an artist, it takes time to discover your skill and artistry. But it all begins with you!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a makeup artist in North Texas! I specialize in makeup for all kinds of occasions, from photoshoot sessions to prom to bridal. I also offer makeup lessons where I teach my techniques. I love sharing my knowledge with others and making them feel their best selves! What I am most proud of is being able to glam up several brides throughout the years. Knowing they chose and trusted me for their special day, makes me proud. I have a special place in my heart for weddings!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think my advice for networking in general is get out there! Use different types of platforms and branch out. Try networking with others and not staying in your own bubble, it creates a better community, and it makes you feel great to be a part of it.
