Today we’d like to introduce you to Eno Oduok
Hi Eno, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was looking to join an online community that celebrated Nigerians in PR or communications, something I could relate to. After searching through Instagram, I didn’t see one. I tried searching for pages regarding Nigerians in other overlooked career fields, such as finance, to see if there were any that existed. I realized there were none so that motivated me to create a space that catered to all Nigerian creatives & Nigerians in overlooked career fields (non-traditional fields specifically). Also, I created this space with a mission to end the constant societal pressure some people put on others to pursue a traditional career path. I wanted to provide a space that people in my community could resonate with and celebrate/uplift each other. After I created Naija Comm, it rapidly grew and caught the attention of many people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Don’t get me wrong, there are many pros but there are cons as well. In the beginning, it was kind of difficult receiving engagement on social media posts and figuring out what worked/what didn’t work for the brand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Naija Comm?
Naija Comm is the first-ever online community to celebrate, connect, uplift Nigerian creatives and Nigerians in overlooked career fields only. This is a space for Nigerians to be unapologetically themselves, embrace each other’s creativity, and continue impacting our community by breaking barriers and stigmas. NC has virtual events for everyone to attend and it features an innovative panel of Nigerians from different fields. We offer a free newsletter that provides exclusive access to job alerts in any area, giveaways, upcoming events, and more. We also highlight creatives on our page so everyone can connect and learn about each other’s inspiring stories and careers.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do believe luck has played a small part in the growth of the brand but I also believe God, persistence, and a good work ethic played a bigger part. In my opinion, things happen for a reason whether it’s a blessing or a lesson.
