Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel Ayala.
Hi Manuel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Manuel or Manny, whichever you prefer! I’m currently 26, I live in Houston, Texas with my partner and our two cats, Hana and Komi.
I’ve always considered myself a creative kid vs. being book smart so naturally, I was always attracted to drawing, dancing, crafts, and any other artistic outlooks. I first picked up a camera in high school when I took photojournalism and instantly fell in love with playing with a camera- taking portraits, pictures of my pets, and anything else I could capture! I even considered making photography a career, but mistakingly thought it was only a hobby.
After I graduated in 2015, I pursued one of my other biggest passions: color guard (Flag spinners with the marching band) where I then performed alongside professional independent color guards in Texas for a few years until I decided to retire. After retiring, I asked myself “what was next?” and did some deep creative thinking. (I’m actually marching this 2023 winter season with Third Coast Independent)
Of course, I choose to do photography. I’ve currently been shooting professionally since 2018 and have worked alongside professional photographers, amazing companies, and local Texas schools as a photographer and videographer. I knew deep down in my heart that I have always wanted to be a photographer and run my very own business, so here we are, owner of Manuel Ayala Photography.
As a queer business owner, inclusivity and diversity are important to me as I love celebrating all walks of life. Eventually one day I would love to own my own wedding venue and be a full-time wedding photographer.
Other than photography, my hobbies include DIY crafty projects, falling more in love with Sam Smith’s music, and color guard. I also love to visit plant nurseries, go to local coffee shops to try everything on the menu, and shop at target. I’m a Gemini, my favorite season is fall, and I want to move to Washington one day! I like to consider myself a very outgoing, chatty, and funny person who loves to make others laugh and have a great time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been road bumps here and there, but overall the most challenging part is trying to stay booked and busy.
As you know, we’re big fans of Manuel Ayala Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I currently offer lifestyle photography, photographing portraits, graduations, couples, and boudoirs.
I am queer and Hispanic owned.
(I provided some details in my “brief” description- I apologize if it’s too long!)
