Today we’d like to introduce you to Sari Imber Moore.
Hi Sari, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My interest in art and design goes back as far as I can remember. My dad is an architect, so I grew up with an appreciation for beautiful places and spaces and knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps into a design career from a very early age. I was raised in San Antonio – a very culturally vibrant and colorful place – and spent summers on a quiet little idyllic island off the coast of Maine, so I think the combination of these two very different yet uniquely beautiful places has influenced me deeply. As a young adult, I explored all of the arts — painting, drawing, pottery, film photography, you name it. In college, I had the opportunity to intern with the always incredible Beth Webb in Atlanta, which really solidified my decision to pursue interior design after graduation. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of working for some extraordinarily talented designers in Houston, collaborating with architects, builders and vendors to see beautiful residential projects come to fruition. When the pandemic hit and life slowed down, I began dreaming about launching my own firm. A few opportunities for projects came knocking, and I took the leap!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting an interior design firm during a pandemic certainly has had its unique challenges! From foam production being disrupted after the Texas freeze, to supply chain issues and labor shortages, there have been constant (and unprecedented) delays and backorders in our industry. I continue to be incredibly lucky to have clients who are exceedingly patient, understanding, and kind. It’s taught me as a business owner how crucial it is to communicate clearly and set realistic expectations from the start. Despite the pandemic challenges, it’s been nothing short of a dream to be able to do what I love with clients who are as enthusiastic and excited as I am to see their homes transform.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sari Imber Interiors?
Sari Imber Interiors provides high-end full-service design for residential spaces—inspired by timeless and authentic pieces and places, with a passion for thoughtful and engaging client service. I believe a well-designed home should be a reflection of who you are—the places you’ve been and the values you hold dear. My favorite part of what I do is getting to know my clients and understanding their vision for a beautiful life. I’ve enjoyed working on a broad range of projects, from a mid-century modern home in Maine to a traditional Georgian-style residence in the heart of the city, always viewing each house as a unique opportunity to create beauty and “soul” — especially by way of incorporating vintage pieces or antiques. My interiors strive to pay homage to the architecture while infusing a fresh mix of textiles, color, and patterns.
In addition, historic preservation and classical architecture are two interests that have driven my eye and design choices for as long as I can remember. I’m proud to be a board member for the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Texas Chapter, as well as serve on the steering committee for Preservation Houston’s young preservation group.
What are your plans for the future?
This summer, our firm is participating in the first annual La Petite Maison Gala, where I’ll design and auction off a unique dollhouse in support of A Shelter for Cancer Families. Also, I’m beyond excited to finally install and photograph several of the projects I’ve been working on over the last year. Installs are the culmination of so many people’s efforts — craftsmen of all kinds, rug weavers, painters, drapery makers, and the entire design team — to see a project come to life and the joy it brings our clients is the best part of my job. Beyond that, I can’t wait to see what else is in store as Sari Imber Interiors continues to grow!
