Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Adams.
Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an artistic passion and background. While searching for an outlet to show my talents, I stumbled into a local MAC store and purchased some makeup for myself in 2011. Not realizing that it was a blessing in disguise, I began creating abstract and colorful looks and posted them on Instagram. I got a huge response from friends and others I didn’t even know. A friend of mine encouraged me to start doing makeup full time. That was the best advice I ever realized. I can finally say, I have a career where I am the boss and doing something I love. I hated the monotony of being corporate and I worked hard to get out there. Fall 2012, I quit my job and begin working freelance as a makeup artist.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, the road to being a small business owner has been somewhat smooth. Of course, bumps will occur from time to time. The main problems I might run into is self-doubting my career or hit a slow season. It can be a domino effect. I look at other artist being “booked and busy” while I am not and I wonder what is wrong with me. When this does occur, I try to keep myself busy and advance. I stay busy by looking for practice models to try new techniques or products, updating my website and SEO, and find new ways to market myself.
My advice to any women is TO DO IT! If you have a passion or an idea and feel like it is unattainable, just know if there is a will there is away! Do not fear failure, fear mediocrity!

I am the owner and professional makeup artist of Ashley Adams Beauty. I specialize in makeup education, beauty and bridal events in the Houston and surrounding areas. Since Fall 2017, I have hosted over 10 sold out makeup classes, that is catered to everyday women who want to learn how to properly apply their makeup. What sets me apart is that I am very personable and professional. I do my best to not only make a client who is new to makeup feel comfortable but also educated them and maybe even dispell any makeup myths they may have.
