Conversations with the Inspiring Elizabeth Webb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Webb.

Elizabeth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in a family of nine moving between Mexico and Arizona. I took harp lessons whenever we were in the United States, which was about five months/year. But even when I wasn’t taking lessons, I loved to play.

I’ve always loved how playing the harp affects people. While I’ve never been big on competitions or getting the best orchestra position, I love playing in intimate settings where I can see the emotions on the faces of my listeners. I moved to Houston 3 years ago because I love the culture and vibrancy of this city. It has been my joy to provide live harp music to corporate dinners, backyard weddings, charity auctions, and memorial services. Each performance is unique. That’s what makes it never get boring!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Coming from a poor family, the idea of buying a pedal harp (over 10k for a used one) seemed impossible. But I worked every job I could and saved up until I finally owned my own harp, just before heading off to study harp in college in LA. When I finished my degree, I moved back to Tucson, essentially starting over with establishing harp students and clients. Then six years later, my husband and I decided to move to Houston.

Moving to a new city and re-establishing a career is never easy. Especially since I did not want to pursue orchestral positions. But I believe that if you do what you love, what you feel you were born to do, and you are able to help people through it, it’s all worth it!

What should we know about Houston Harp Music? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
I play mostly solo harp. I love learning new, modern pop songs, the ones that make people’s jaws drop! But I also take great joy in playing hymns and comforting songs to those who are hurting.
