Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ibarra.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have never really been big on wearing makeup. I have always loved eyelash extensions and the way that they enhance your eyes and bring out your natural beauty. I did not get into makeup until about a few months ago, so eyelashes have always been my go to. I love the different eye shapes that people have and enjoy creating lash sets because the finished look is never the same. It is like creating a new masterpiece every single time. I went to ogle school and decided to take a class.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was definitely not an easy road. I struggled with applying lashes because I had no idea that there were so many different curl patterns within your eyelashes. I had a difficult time getting people to allow me to practice on them because of the amount of time I took to apply them. I practiced on family members and had them recruit friends who would be okay with laying down for 6-7 hours for a set of lash extensions. It was frustrating when people would agree and not show up and I almost gave up. The fact that I have a friend that is also an eyelash artist is what helped me to push through. She was there for me to discuss my frustrations with and always offered helpful tips. The advice I would give to other young women would be to not give up because it is going to take time. It takes practice and patience. So much patience is going to be required because you have got to be persistent and understand that it will not happen overnight.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a lash artist and I specialize in natural-looking lash extensions. I am the most proud when I get a referral from an existing client. I love hearing that my lashes last!
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Mindset: The new psychology of success is a book that I read every other month to help get me in a positive mindset. This is important to me because I like to have an optimistic outlook toward life and my goals and aspirations. It helps me to feel like I can take on the world as long as I am in a positive mindset and can reach my full potential when I am in that mindset. I also enjoy listening to relaxing stress relief music for around 15 minutes every day and that actually helps me to be calm and patient.
