Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshia Jones.
Keshia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Kesh Kosmetics came about because I was sick of working every day for other people and not for myself. I recently got laid off and I was devastated. I wanted something I could call my own that no one could take from me. I decided that I’d spend this time to focus on my goals and dreams. So, I got up, turned on my camera and started filming makeup tutorials. That’s how Kesh Kosmetics was formed.
Has it been a smooth road?
There’s a lot that goes into it. It’s very time consuming especially with a four-year-old son but I have to keep reminding myself, this is for me. This is my dream and if I dont believe in it, no one will. These days, I have creativity blocks or I don’t feel cute enough and sometimes I just have to clear my mind and repay the goal. But I never stop putting my name and my face out there.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Kesh Kosmetics story. Tell us more about the business.
Kesh Kosmetics is a brand. I am a woman who noticed that everywhere you look, there’s perfection in the beauty industry. But that’s not real life. I want to represent the beauty of the everyday woman. The woman with acne, cellulite, love handles, and insecurities. I want women to know our flaws are beautiful as well. To gain confidence in yourself through makeup or whatever you choose. My tutorials are for the everyday woman. I show my flaws and insecurities with my head held high to inspire everyone else to do the same.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
When I was a child, I always wanted to be in the beauty industry but I never felt pretty enough. I struggled with acne from a young age and I’ve always been so insecure about it that I let it cripple me. Now, I’m letting it push me and create my own lane in the beauty industry.
