Conversations with the Inspiring Rhonda Walls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Walls.

Rhonda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I was in intermediate school, I have wanted to be a lawyer and represent medium to small businesses. I grew up in a household where no one in my family had ever had the opportunity to attend college. My parents were small business owners and their lack of education and access to good legal counsel often hindered their ability to succeed. After seeing their struggles, I decided that in my legal career I wanted to focus on helping small and medium size businesses succeed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path to being part owner of a successful law firm as not always been easy. My parents did not have all the necessary funds to send me to college, so I earned scholarships and worked summers to help pay for college. My advice to young women is never to give up on your goal no matter the obstacle or challenge. My other advice is to network with other strong women because having successful women mentors is a great key to success. The greatest joy that I experience in my career is when I can assist someone in accomplishing their dreams.

What should we know about Sowell, Alvares & Walls, PLLC? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a partner in the law firm of Sowell, Alvares & Walls, PLLC. I specialize in helping small to medium size businesses with their legal issues. I also help individuals with their estate planning needs and help them navigate the probate system. One of the best aspects of our firm is that each of our attorneys uses our profession to serve our community. Specifically, I am very involved in Rotary International serving as Rotary District 5890 Governor in 2011-2012, I have also served on several non-profit boards helping children and veterans, for example, the Fort Bend County Rainbow Room and HelpingAHero.Org. My philosophy is that true success comes from helping others succeed in life.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
My advice to young women would be never be afraid to take a chance or go for the promotion. The best advocate for an individual is always themselves. Always be proud of your accomplishments and talents and don’t be afraid to share them with others. Never apologize for your success.
