Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Cooper.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a stay-at-home mom of 5 children and have been married to my college sweetheart for almost 20 years. My husband Ryan and I adopted two children a little over two years ago. We already had 3 biological children, so we became a full house! It has not been an easy road, but we have come a long way. Two summers ago, we decided it would be best to homeschool several of our children. Due to the difficult behavior issues we were facing, we also decided we both needed to be at home full time. My husband quit his job and we decided to do our own thing. We had owned the name for a website for several years since it had always been my hope to start a blog about being a housewife and a stay-at-home mom. Well, we jumped in with both feet and started One Happy Housewife. On the blog, you can find tips and tricks about everything home. I have many wonderful recipes, organizing tips, decor ideas, cleaning tips, and more. It’s been a lot of hard work, but at the same time we really enjoy what we are doing and my husband and I love working together. The blog has grown tremendously and we are so excited about what the future holds.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Blogging is not easy, despite what most people think. In order to make a living from it, you have to work so hard. I’m talking late nights and weekends, constantly for quite a while. We also had to tighten our budget considerably to be able to afford my husband quitting his job. The nice thing is, if you work really hard and are patient, you can succeed. Eventually, you won’t have to work long hours and weekends. If you set things up correctly and work really hard up front, a blog can produce for you even on days you’re not working. We are not quite there yet, but we are definitely starting to see the fruits of our labor after a little over a year of blogging full time. I am lucky to have my husband who does all the technical parts of the blog, but there are plenty of women who do it alone and succeed. You can definitely start a blog and be successful even if you’re not technologically inclined. There are plenty of resources available out there to help. It takes passion and hard work. Now, of course, I wouldn’t recommend for anyone to just quit their job and start blogging. It was the right decision for us. Though it’s been a lot of hard work and sacrifice, I’m so glad we followed our hearts and decided to start One Happy Housewife.
What should we know about One Happy Housewife? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
One Happy Housewife is a place for my readers to get lots of great information on everything related to home. I have recently been focusing on Instant Pot recipes. My readers love them since the Instant Pot makes cooking so much easier. My recipes are known for being easy, quick and perfect for beginners and busy moms. I have lots of organization posts as well as cleaning tips, and even decor ideas. A website is a happy place and that’s the tone I try to keep with all of my posts. We all need a little more happy in our lives!
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I’d have to say that the biggest inspiration in my life has been my mother. She was always a housewife and stay-at-home mom. She was amazing at it. She was always there when I returned from school. Every single day. She drove me around to all my activities and taught me everything I know about being a mom and housewife. She always kept the house beautifully clean, organized, and decorated to perfection. She was the perfect housewife in my eyes. Her and my dad have been married for almost 60 years. I couldn’t have asked for better role models. I’m lucky to come from a family of beautiful and amazing women, from my sister to my aunts and cousins, they have all been a great inspiration to me. Though I graduated with a business degree from a top university, with honors, I always felt deep inside, I’d want to be a housewife and a stay-at-home mom. Well, looks like I’m able to do both now. I’m a housewife, a stay-at-home mom, and a businesswoman! Can’t beat that!
